#chewyinfluencer When Ya Gotta Go . . . It's In The Bag!

Hola Amigos. I am here today to talk about FRISCO products. Specifically, the one on the left in the above photo - the POOP BAGS. When Chewy.com released its August choices for reviews, I absolutely HAD to chime in on the Frisco Dog Waste Bags (poop bags) because I have ALREADY BEEN USING them for a long time. I received a holder and bags with a goodie box from Chewy some time back and I was so excited that I MADE Mommy take me for a walk. A walk almost always means poop for me. I think it has something to do with the PUPPY TRAINING I received. Anyhow, Chewy included the bags in our shipment for review so I want to say something about them.

The holder is pretty cool. It is green so it matches my neutral leash and harness. It also matches my fancier harness because red and green just work. Best of all, the Frisco bag holder is sturdy. It has held up to a lot of walks in a lot of weather and still works and looks like new. The clip snaps right on the handle of my leash so the bags are always with us. Many times we have rescued pups who had to poop even though their humans forgot the bags. No puggy wants to be THAT dog who leaves a pile.

The bags fit nicely and easily into the holder for an always ready supply. They are available in scented or unscented depending on the humans picking up the poop. It smells. It's a fact of life. But for those who prefer to walk and smell flowers and not fecal odor, well there is a scented version. Best of all. . . these bags are STURDY so they won't split and create an additional mess (which has happened to me a couple of times). And they are BIG for those times a little bag won't do. There have been walks where Molly and I poop simultaneously and these BIG bags saved (1) Mommy from having to carry 2 bags of poop and (2) the trash from having ANOTHER plastic bag. These lovelies are 9"x 13" so even BIG dog poop will fit.

I absolutely LOVE the FRISCO line of poop products and I am so glad Chewy.com carries them. If I had ONE negative to say about the product it would be -

Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastics.
Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean?
("The Graduate" 1967)

We all want to eliminate as much plastic from our lives as possible. But I think we also need to be practical. Picking up poop in a paper bag and then carrying said ready-to-fall-apart paper bag simply isn't practical. And let's face it - the world is a lot nicer if humans pick up after their pets.

We give FRISCO POOP accessories a soaring 8 Paws up for style, versatility, and usefulness.

*We received these poop bags free of charge for the sole purpose of trying them out and reviewing them. The opinions are ours and ours alone - cuz no one tells Noodles what to do. . .

A Mild, Sunny Day In California Means Pugs Can Play

Yesterday was a PERFECT day. And it got even perfecter with a trip to the north bay and a visit with my PUG pals. It was great from start to finish as we left during the cool morning and drove for an hour. I say in the back seat in my crate and just wallowed in the sweet sea cooled air coming in through the window. I think it made me snooze a little because before I knew it we were there.

I have never been to Gerty's house before but heard it was a super place to hang out. Those reports were absolutely correct. Gerty has a big back yard with lots of decks and plants and a garden and GRASS!!!! She has green grass in her backyard! We don't because the water to keep it green would be too expensive. But Gerty lives near a creek and that keeps the soil nice and moist even if her 'rents are not constantly watering. It was a luxury to walk on it.

This is Gerty. Isn't she lovely? She turned 14 years young on Aug 27
We were among the first to arrive - however Tiffy beat us and Bellatrix arrived at the same time. As you may or may not know, Tiffy and Belli are my besties. I am always so thrilled when I see them. We were shuffled into the back yard and there we got to say our HELLOS and update each other on what we have been up to. It has been quite a while since we all had a pug (plus a chiwiwi) gathering, so we had a lot to catch up on.

This is a weird angle, MOM! Tiffy and me posing pretty

Soon the yard was covered in PUGS. Well, that is a little exaggeration but there were about 9 of us. That is quite a few. Let's see, there was Gerty, ME, Tiffy, Bellatrix, Hanna, Baloo, Phoebe, Fezzik, Ms. Ellie and Angel the chiwiwi. Such fun.

Me and Phoebe. She is 11 or 12 years old now, I forget. She is a
funny funny dame, though.

We mostly wandered here and there checking out the smells and visiting with the humans. The humans were, of course, too busy EATING and chatting to really pay attention to us. Although, I have to admit I got a lot of pets, pats, and lovin' scritches behind my ears. It was PUG HEAVEN!

After a few hours, it started to get a little warm. That meant it was time to say goodbye. But before we left we too a group photo with our HUMOMS. I have a big smile on my face just thinking about it. I love this group so much.

LtoR: Phoebe, Fezzik, Bellatrix, Hanna, Noodles, Tiffy, Ellie, Baloo, Gerty

#chewyinfluencer I've Never Met a Food I Didn't Like and This One is NO Exception

This is me sitting pretty. Why am I sitting PRETTY? Well, in anticipation of food, of course. And I am here to tell you about a FOOD we recently taste tested for Chewy.com called Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Market Chicken Recipe Meal Blends Freeze-Dried Dog Food

Let me tell you the WHOLE story . . . from the beginning. It was a sunny morning and already the temperature was WARM. It promised to be a toasty day and one I would generally enjoy in the BACKYARD picking apples. In fact, that is exactly what I was doing when I heard Molly yapping at the top of her lungs. If you've never heard Molly bark, you are lucky. I am pretty sure that loud, ear-piercing yap can be heard from here to Timbuktu! She is loud. And to make matters worse, she stands by the door where the decorative window is clear at HER EYE level. She barks at the kids across the street. . . she barks at people walking past the house. . . she barks at cars driving too fast through the neighborhood, she barks at the squirrels in the Italian Cypress. You guessed it - she BARKS ALL THE TIME.

But this particular time she barked at the PACKAGE DELIVERY guy because he was walking up to the door carrying these -

What in the WIDE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS do we have here, I mused from under the apple tree? So I got up from the nest of fallen apples I had made and dashed to the back door - barking all the way. One must always answer a BARK with a BARK - that is classic Dog Behavior 101. Mommy let me in and I made a wild dash to the front door and joined Molly in her sing fest. We did that until Mommy got the hint (she is so dense sometimes - and much to her dismay, does not speak DOG). When she opened the door she was so surprised to find these TWO boxes sitting by the plant on the PORCH. She tortured us a little making us pose for pictures on the porch, on the box, staring at the boxes (see above), and so on. We just wanted to know what was IN the boxes. One box was for Sunshine and we discussed this on MONDAY, if you recall.

This is what was in the second box - Poop bags by Frisco (review tomorrow) and THE FOOD . . . . Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Market Chicken Recipe Meal Blends Freeze-Dried Dog Food. We chose the chicken formula because we are particularly fond of chicken. Sometimes we eat other stuff but this time the chicken sounded too tempting. This is why we chose it, aside from the fact we love love love Natures Variety Instinct Raw Boost because of these FACTS:

  1. No grain or gluten. The jury is out regarding gluten. Some dogs are allergic to it. But the big question is, does gluten do more than just fill a pet up? What are the benefits of gluten in a pet's diet. I am not here to answer those questions because I am not a nutritionist. But the NUTRITIONISTS at Nature's Variety have determined that gluten just might not be important to pet health SO they left it out
  2. You can re-hydrate the freeze-dried foods to make a complete meal. I am not sure why adding water makes it a complete meal and we had issues with this part
  3. Cage free chicken, real peas, real potatoes
  4. It is a protein rich food containing 76% chicken and liver, 24% vegetables, fruits and vitamins
  5. Made in the USA but uses certified food sources outside the USA. From their website - All of our poultry and pork come from the U.S., our beef is from the U.S. and New Zealand, our lamb is from the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, our venison is imported from Australia and New Zealand, and our rabbit is imported from France and Italy. We are very stringent in our sourcing standards and prioritize building close relationships with our vendors.

So there are a lot of GOOD reasons for feeding a Pug Princess and Majestic Maltese these foods. The remaining UNKNOWNS ARE

  • Would a picky Maltese Mix like the food
  • Would Nature's Variety deliver  what it promises in terms of ultimate Pet Health (coat, skin, energy)
  • Would it make Mommy's life a little easier when it comes to OUR feeding time

So. . . we love dehydrated foods. They are rich in flavor and the texture is kinda fun and exciting. For a whole meal . . . maybe not. So Mommy set about following the directions about hydrating the food. She was happy to not have to heat water in order to do so (like she had to for Stella and Chewy's Chicken Patties). So she carefully decided how much to feed us (there is a chart on the back of the bag) and how much water to put into the bowl. All of the pieces floated to the top and just stayed there. She reminded us it would take TEN TORTUROUS MINUTES before we could eat it. We waited and waited and WAITED. When she looked in the bowl. . . THE PIECES WERE STILL FLOATING! They had not hydrated at all! Granted, she had not completely followed directions and did not crush them. . . but one would THINK that hydration would still take place. But, NO. Didn't matter, though. We lapped up the "soup" and happily crunched through the pieces as if it worked right. I gotta say, and I know Molly would agree, this is one TASTY meal.

The next day we tried it again and this time with HOT WATER which meant waiting a little more than TEN MINUTES (because we had to let it cool down). GUESS what? The food still floated on top and did not really hydrate. The "soup" was a little tastier than the previous time, though.

At the end of the day, Mommy said FORGET IT when it came to hydrating and fed it to us AS IS. We loved it. Ate it RIGHT UP with no pause to think. She made sure we had plenty of fresh water near by, too. Too much un-hydrated freeze dried food can make you very very thirsty.

Unfortunately, the food also did not fill us up and we promptly began begging for MORE as soon as we licked our bowls clean. This was true even when she upped our portions a little. She DID NOT want to risk SOMEPUGGY putting on weight so she did not up it too much. For Casa de Noodles purposes, I think this food is better used as a topper. That way we get all of the benefits of the carefully formulated proteins and minerals without messing with (1) the water and (2) us little beggars being unsatisfied.

All in all we give this food SIX PAWS UP because the only real negative to it was the lack of hydration. We are definitely showing other benefits from the food including shiny coats and an increased playfulness.

*We received from Chewy.com enough food to test the product for the month. We are not paid not prompted for our opinions. They are ours and ours alone. And we gleefully share them with everyone because we are generous like that, and stuff.

In The Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki TIKI Room. . .

Sunshine the Cat decided the AUGUST Chewy.com newsletter was too enticing to ignore. So she perused it over and over until she finally decided to review the TIKI CAT ALOHA FRIENDS blend of cat food in a pouch. She has tried Tiki Cat Gourmet Carnivore variety pack before and I think the ONLY complaint was from THE AUNTS regarding the smell. It was a very strong smelling food. However - the reason for the strong smell is the ALL NATURAL AND FOR REAL ingredients that make up each blend. For example: The Tuna with Whitefish and Pumpkin is made of . . . Flaked Tuna, Tuna Broth, Pumpkin, Ocean Whitefish, Sunflower Seed Oil, Calcium Lactate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Niacin (Vitamin B3), Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Vitamin A Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Ferrous Sulfate, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Copper Sulfate, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement.

So based on the previous experience and a love for the Hawaiian Islands, Sunshine decided to throw caution to the TRADE WINDS and give Aloha Friends a try. She is not at all unhappy that she did. From the moment my Mommy opened the pouch Sunshine was all drooly and meow-y and oddly happy. It was SO DISTURBING. The variety pack includes
  1.  Tuna with Tilapia & Pumpkin (3)
  2. Tuna with Ocean Whitefish & Pumpkin (3)
  3. Tuna with Shrimp & Pumpkin (3)
  4. Tuna with Calamari & Pumpkin (3)

Sunshine says she has liked each and every one of them. . . the Tuna Whitefish blend a bit more than the others. How do we know? When Sunshine really likes a food, she will eat it up right away. Nothing is left for later. . . and nothing is left to throw away. She even licks the bowl clean. BUT for the Tiki Cat, she ate some, cleaned her paws, watched the OLYMPICS, ate some more, and so on. This usually lasted an hour or so AND I THINK this is why Aunt B says the food is too stinky. Anybody can tolerate a GOOD stink for a little while - but no one likes to smell it for an HOUR.

Tiki Cat is a winner in Casa de Noodles and we are so happy Chewy.com has given Sunshine the Cat a chance to explore this line of food. I think we would have preferred a can over a pouch, though. The can you can dole out a little and then cover it in plastic wrap or something. BUT the pouch . . . well, once it is open it cannot be resealed. So Sunshine has been receiving a whole serving of wet food where normally she gets a topper.
If you ask me, she looks a little peppier and her coat is shinier than it normally is. AND SHE DID NOT HAVE TO endure a bath like I very very recently did in order to get that shiny coat. So the food is agreeing with her delicate elderCAT self, as well.
And after 12 days of eating TIKI CAT ALOHA FRIENDS she still likes it. That is an A+ grade from a cat. Those of you who ARE cats or live with Cats know what I mean,

*All of the opinions expressed in this blog are mine, Noodles the Pug, and mine alone. We have received the product from Chewy.com free of charge in order to try it and develop our own opinions of it. And even though I roughed Sunshine the Cat up a bit so she would answer my questions, all of the personal experiences are actually hers. Love Noodles the Pug

#Beinglazy on a Friday!

I realize it is AFTERNOON already and I have accomplished ZIPPITY DO DAH! I meant well, I really did. But what with staying up WAY past my bedtime cheering on the Olympians AND my other job of LAP SITTING. . . well I just got sidetracked from my work.

What better day to be lazy than the DAY before the weekend. I mean. . . it ushers in the weekend which begs for a lazy day or two. And it is the END of a long work week so it means we are extra tired.

But then, what's to stop us from being lazy on Monday because it is after the END of the weekend? And we are extra tired on Mondays (admit it, you are) because of all the FUN we had on the weekend. Or if we didn't have fun, we are tired from all the CHORES and HOUSEWORK that we all put off until the weekend because we are too busy during the week.

It is a dizzying rollercoaster and I am just not gonna deal with it today. Besides, I don't really have to justify my actions because, well . . .  I'M A PUG.

What ever you do this weekend, take some time out to refresh, relax and reflect. Monday is just a couple of sleeps away.

Oh. . . What Have We Here? It's From CHEWY!!!!!

Ignore my Mommy #2's feet and LOOK at WHAT'S behind us!

So the BACKSTORY is, we were going ballistic at the door, We often do. See, if you look behind us you will see this small window. The CLEAR part of the design is just about eye-level for Molly and Me so we frequently stand there and alert Mommy to danger. THERE IS A LOT OF POTENTIAL DANGER in this world, you know.

On this particular day we spotted our FAVORITE stranger - the FEDEX man who brings the CHEWY.COM boxes. And we KNEW what it was too - our selections from the AUGUST NEWSLETTER to test and then to write a review.

Look Molly! Our August selection is here! That was FAST!
We decided on a couple of things for DOGS and one for CATS. Molly and I are reviewing Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Market dehydrated food. Sounds good to us. And if you recall, we loved loved loved Nature's Variety Raw Boost - so we thought WHY NOT? It could be a win win. We also ordered some POOP BAGS - Frisco brand. Think back a while ago when we got a GOODIE BOX from Chewy.com just for being US? Well it included a FRISCO poop bag dispenser and a roll of bags. We LOVE it. Although you may not be aware of it, poop bag holders DO NOT last forever. In our short lives we have gone through close to 5 of them. So we were anxious to try out the FRISCO brand. We cannot wait to tell you what we find out about the bags,

Chewy.com WE LOVE YOU
Sunshine the Cat passed up a couple of months of Chewy.com reviews because she couldn't find anything appealing to her. But this time she did. She totally BEGGED to try the Tiki Cat Aloha Friend meal in a pouch. The last time she reviewed Tiki Cat food she really liked it - to the point she would not EAT ANYTHING ELSE! So she decided to give it a try. Sunshine is more of a CHICKEN on the ground cat rather than a CHICKEN of the sea kind. And these are all FISH based meals. But she said she would TOUGH it out because Tiki Cat is a brand she DIGS.

It's Cat in the BOX not Cat in the HAT
We will do our reviews NEXT week so we can get a weekend more of testing done. This is always so exciting for us because it means we get to try new things that normally we might not consider.

In the meantime, we are continuing our Olympics and Pawlympics cheering. We really enjoyed the gymnastics and beach volleyball. Now the track is wow-ing us. Imagine the US women's 100m hurdles taking Gold, Silver and Bronze! WOW!! And did you all see Zac Efron surprising Simone Biles of the Final Five gymnastics team? That was probably the best thing I have ever seen on television! It was so special of him to make her dream come true. I have a new love and respect for Zac Efron.

Keep cheering on those athletes! They represent us and need our support.

You may never know - but look in the background for a hint at a future post.

Okay, so I have FAILED at Wordless Wednesday.
I have tried but a lot of times I just have too much to say.

So, I think in the future there will be less WORDLESS
and more WORDFUL Wednesdays.

I'm Gonna Miss Tea and My Very Special Biscuit

I am a little sad today. I just heard that my newest, most wonderful best friend for a day, Biscuit, went to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. He was a good ol' boy and I will miss him.

I had heard of BISCUIT for years from my Aunt B. She works with his Mom and they often chatted about their FURKIDS. It just took a long time for her friend to FINALLY bring him over to our house (they joined us for the FOURTH OF JULY). They were afraid that Biscuit, who was 13 years YOUNG, and US (Molly and ME) would not get along. Silly humans!

We got along really really well. He was nice - in a curmudgeonly way. And he would just wander around the yard smelling things and exploring the new environment.
Look on the LEFT in my HAPPY BIRTHDAY photo - you can see Biscuit right next to me as I prepare to blow out my candles.

Come on LADY, Light the candle ALREADY!

I wish. . . I wish. . . Help me Biscuit and Molly. . .

Rest in Peace BISCUIT. I am gonna miss ya.

What's a Pug to DO?

It is USELESS. I cannot, will not, ignore the ripening apples in the yard. Every time I go out there I am overwhelmed by the aroma of ripening apples. I am drawn to the tree by the intoxicating smell and when I get there I am overcome by the need to pull an apple - or two - down.

That's when I settle into the little remaining grass (thank you drought for turning my green carpet of crass into crunchy brown weeds) and enjoy the sweet crispy crunch of a fresh apple. I am powerless to stop.

yes, that is a eye booger - so what?

Throw Back Thursday - Painful Memories Edition

In my SHORT 7 years, I am afraid I have had a misstep or two. I seldom take the most cautious path and tend to be a little like a bull in a china shop when I get my mind set on something.

The outcome has not always been good.

Case in point. . . a nearly empty yogurt container. I was hungry. . . when am I not? It was there. . . begging for me to come to its rescue. It got stuck . . . I guess I created a vacuum when I tried to get all of the goodness out of the container?

What does my HUmom do? Take a picture, of course. The laughs last longer.

Better. . . and Some Olympic DREAM Racing

My foot is a lot better this morning. Mommy told me to STAY OFF the couch and NOT jump down from anything. This will be hard as I am a pretty independent type of PUG. But since NOT doing those things made my foot better, I guess I will not DO them, like she said. I absolutely HATE being incapacitated in any way . . . but at least the "pootie" (paw and foot) feels better and that makes me feel a lot better. Thank you EVERYPUGGY for your good wishes.

You may not be able to tell in this photo, but I am SWIMMING along with the US swim team. This particular event was the 100m Breaststroke along with Lily King. It was a close race, I tell you. I am not a particularly strong swimmer but I can hold my own against PUGS of my size. I was very much rooting for LK, though. She was AWESOME in that race.

My next event, which is not shown in this photo dream sequence, was the 200m Butterfly. This was the race featuring Michael Phelps and Chad le Clos - arch rivals. Last time these two met, le Clos edge MP out for the win. Well, with a little help from YOURS TRULY, MP placed first in the SEMIFINALS to gain a good berth for the finals. I am working on some MOJO for that race and hopefully we will see another GOLD MEDAL to Mr Phelps.

These OLYMPICS are fun but NOT NEARLY as fun as the Pawlympics. Today's the FOURTH day of action. Check out Sarge's calendar for the schedule of events.

Toughing It Out

My Monday Pose

I hurt my paw some how. I am not sure what happened nor when, even. I just started limping and falling on my face when I got up from my bed. Clearly my foot is hurting me but not to the point of yelping. Mommy even pressed on the bones to see if maybe there was something stuck in my food OR a broken bone. She figured there were no broken bones because I did not react at all when she pressed on it.

I managed to get into a bit of mischief yesterday. The FIRST totally was not my fault. I was lounging on Mommy's lap when she said her knee was starting to hurt and I would have to get down. I looked at her like she was a loon so she put down her knitting and lifted me up. Well, I MIGHT have squirmed some because she lost her grip on me and dropped me from about 2 feet up. We both gasped about it and she promptly picked me up to check for injuries. I was fine, though, just a little caught off-guard. We laughed at our silliness.

Then I jumped off the kitchen level rather than take the 2 steps and MIGHT have jarred my foot. I was more concerned with the noggin knock I got when I careened into the wall. But I was fine, nothing hurt, nothing broken.

Later on, while Mommy and Aunt B were making dinner, I was doing my usual VELCRO-PUG routine and stuck close to their legs in hopes of catching a scrap or two. I MIGHT have accidentally tripped Aunt B one or two times, I can't recall. But I still showed no signs of an owie. It was not until much much later that Mommy noticed I was not putting any weight on my left paw. We put our heads together and could not come up with a single incident where I could have been injured.

She is keeping an eye on me and if she doesn't see any improvement soon, we will be heading to the vet to get it checked out. Pugsonally I think it is nothing to worry about. It improved overnight and I am not in any obvious pain. But that is a worry too since loss of limb function is frequently a sign of a brain disorder.

I feel fine, though, and I think there is nothing to worry about. I'll let you know what happens.

Ready to Party With The World at the PAWLYMPICS, , ,

I'm ON THE TRACK and ready to enjoy the PAWLYMPICS. How much fun is this? Every couple of years the whole world gathers around their television sets and watches the greatest athletes in the world compete. It is a time of good will and fun. I pugsonally love love love it.

Check out Christmas' blog for the opening ceremonies. He looks so handsome carrying the torch, Ahem. . . and there are so many Blogville residents participating. . . If I wasn't wrapped up in SOMEONE'S work (her excuse not mine) then I would totally participate in something like LONG DISTANCE NAPPING or SHADOW BARKING. Those are my specialties.

And be sure to check out Sarge's calendar for links to ALL of the PAWLYMPICS events.

I don't have a lot on tap this weekend . . . picking up poop with Mommy (I find, she picks up) and SUPERVISING house cleaning. I don't care because it means both of my Mommys will be HOME with ME.

Have a super weekend and enjoy the PAWLYMPICS.

Fait Accompli - Or Something Like That

Yesterday's post went a long way toward making my Mommy feel guilty. She is hard move - she is so sure of herself that she seldom feels guilty. But I slaved and slaved away at that POEM and at the end of the day - I got extra cuddles and treats. GUILT scores! Mission Accomplished!

So the story is, she left me at HOME for almost 5 FULL days in order to go to that place I cannot go to (in reality, pets are not permitted there) . . .

I knew something was up the night before when Mommy #2 pulled out her green Hawaiian print bag. She uses it when she goes on short trips. Now if she pulls out the BLUE bag with a bone on it, then I know I am going along on the trip. But she did not and I have to admit my mood went from curious to sad. My normally curly tail lost its curl as well.

It stayed like that the whole 5 days, according to Aunt T who stayed home. There are only TWO instances that make my tail lose its curl - extreme TIRED or very very SAD.

But this is all ancient history now as BOTH of my Mommys have returned and all is well. EXCEPT I think something is up with Mommy #1. There is a big big plastic bin with a lid in Mommy's room. In it she is putting in stuff like a desk lamp . . . towels. . . new comforter. . . I can't imagine what's going on. I just know that I am not going to like it much.

I Sat By The Door . . .

The first evening I sat by the door
And I wondered why you were home so Late

The next day I woke up alone
And I wondered where you had gone so Early

That night I snuggled by the Closed door
And I wondered if tonight YOU would open it

The next two days played out the same
At the door I stayed and stayed - Hoping

On day Five I believed that this was my new World
I struggled hard to decide my Future

But I could not imagine how Life would be
If there was no longer YOU and ME

The Fifth night I sat by the door and cried
But then it Opened and it was YOU I spied
