Springtime Noodles

No. This isn't a FOOD BLOG although we frequently talk about FOOD. I am referring to me, Noodles the Pug, in the title. Kinda catchy, huh?

I was out in the backyard helping the garden GROW, as I always do. It was a warm weekend and I love love LOVE being out in our yard when it is SPRING and WARM. These flowers are white geraniums and they are so delightful and spicy smelling. BUT I NEVER eat them. I don't think they would taste so good.

I prefer the sweet sweet strawberries now ripening in the planters. Soon there will also be apricots and tomatoes and beans all growing all over the yard. My Auntie T is a super gardener. The in late summer and on into Fall there are the apples.

I love my yard.

Throwback Thursday - Noodles's Style

Some peeps like to participate in Throwback Thursday with pictures of when they were little pups or kitties. I do not play that way. I like to recall other times. . . usually those associated with food.

Like the time I went to Starbucks with Mommy and Auntie B.
It was spur of the moment.
It was a lovely afternoon.
It was YUMMY.

Need I say more?

A Remembered Angel

Yes, yes. I have used this picture a couple of times this week.
But if you read the post, you will see why I reposted it
TODAY

I had this special FURiend here in Blogville named Payton. I never met her in the fur, but we were like sisters in many ways. Payton was so spirited and fun and I loved reading about her adventures on her blog Pugnacious P. There was one special thing about Payton, though. . . she was a PDE Survivor. If you don't know what PDE is and you are a PUG - then rush right over to her blog (her awesome 'rents keep the sight up and active for peeps looking for PDE info and help) and find out: Pugnacious P

Payton was a fighter but the effects of PDE took its toll on her body. In 2012 at age 9 years, Payton crossed the Rainbow Bridge and became an angel forever.I think of her almost every day when I scroll through Blogville posts or hear about another pug diagnosed with PDE. I learned so much from her. And I even have had the special honor of meeting her 'rents who are as wonderful as I always imagined they would be.

March 21 was Payton's birthday. . . and one way we honor Payton is with pictures of pink flowers - because Payton loved pink flowers.

My Auntie B happened to take some spectacular pictures of pink flowers over this weekend and they reminded me of Payton so much that I wanted to blog about them. So here they are -

PAYTON'S PINK FLOWERS

I love you Angel Payton and I know you are watching over us all

The Strawberry Thief

Luscious Strawberry

My Auntie T is the family gardener. You can find her outside puttering around the yard every weekend when the weather is reasonable. That means MOST of the time you can find her in the backyard planting this, pulling that, changing something.

One of her pride and joys are her strawberry plants. They are pretty good producers and are planted in barrels - which keep them away from snails and other strawberry loving critters. Well, that is, away from MOST critters. You see, recently the strawberries have been disappearing. Not a lot at once. Just a couple here and there.

Looking a little skimpy FRUITwise

Auntie T set up perimeter security and until this weekend had no luck at all catching the perpetrator. So she added a camera closer to the action. . . one that was hidden IN the plant. She was sure she would catch the thief. . . AND SHE DID!

The Perp

I was jumping for joy at this news. I mean, I love our strawberries and I don't want anything to happen to them before they are ready to share. But I noticed that suddenly Auntie T was following me when I went outside to do my bidness. And at night no one turned on the light outside so I could find my way around. It was all very suspicious behavior and ALL TOWARD ME!

The accused
Pugsonally, I could not tell who or what the thief is based on THAT photo!

Treat Me RIGHT

Hi. I am Noodles the Pug. I am sitting at this table for one reason - and one reason only. I am waiting
for a TREAT. That's right, you heard it. I am waiting for a TREAT.

I have tried sitting. I have tried shaking paws 'til they nearly go numb. I have even tried "the Jimmy" move that Puglet (The Daily Puglet) made so popular. Nothing. Nada. Rien. Zippity Doo Dah. So I decided to have a TREAT IN at the table and MAYBE somepuggy will get the hint.

I am sure you are thinking, "Noodles the Pug, do you mean you get NO TREATS?"

Kind of.

I get SOME TREATS - but never more than TWO TREATS a day and usually just ONE TREAT broken in half and given to me at different times or shared with Molly. I am wise to that one, Mommys. And the selection is, shall we say, limited? No grain. Low fat. Dehydrated. If I am lucky, I get a salad (no dressing) with my dinner. But that is IT!

So I am sitting here for a CAUSE. I am sitting here in hopes that someday the TREATS will flow. I am doing this for you, and YOU, AND YOU.

We all deserve TREATS - and today, I am going to FIGHT for my RIGHT to indulge in TREATS.

What Spring Means To ME

Springtime means a lot to me
To all the birds and all the bees
The warming sun gives me a smile
And nowadays it stays for a while

I love to sit in Springtime's day
Breezes blow the clouds away
Not too hot, not too muggy
The weather's just right for this puggy

Intoxicatingly the perfume wafts
from within the flower tops
So many different smells to blend
And send adrift upon the wind
Making all the valley sigh
Contentedly 'til Summer's nigh

Tomorrow's the FIRST DAY of Spring
How will you celebrate?

When It's Time to Celebrate - I LIKE to Celebrate LARGE!!!!

Why celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

  1. I'm not Catholic
  2. I'm not Protestant
  3. I'm not Irish
  4. I'm not HUMAN

So why am I a-wearin' o' the Green today (in spirit, a-hem)?

Because I like to CELEBRATE anything HAPPY and FUN and SILLY. . .

Do I Need RED Fur to be IRISH?

Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.

I took some time out to rummage through the closet for my BEST ST. Patrick's day gear. Most of it is GREEN as I look better in GREEN than ORANGE. Orange, Green and White are the colors most associated with SPD, right?

That's what I thought BUT . . .

So to fully EMBRACED my inner-Irish, do I need to

The FARCE Awakens

Star Wars. . . . I'm thinking about Star Wars . . . like this is unusual. I am a Star Wars junkie through and through and often think on how I can incorporate it into my daily life.
I even go so far and imagine a Star Wars episode that maybe I, Noodles the JEDI Pug, could direct and maybe even star in. It would be like really major COOL to have the plot center around a planet of pugs. That'd be funny, don't you think?

It occurred to me there is a Star Wars quote especially apt for this plot as it describes PUGS perfectly

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter"

I get it. Pugs are UNUSUAL looking to say the least. But it is in our uniqueness that we are special.

  • Because of our short snout we tend to be couch potatoes
  • Because of our mask we are expressive
  • Because of our wrinkles, we look wise
  • Because of our strong hearts, we know love

For this reason, I see a storyline where the FORCE is needed to free the Planet of Pugs from the evil clutches of the Empire. I am stuck on whether this would be a SEQUEL, PREQUEL or just a QUEL. . . is that a word????

Anybody have some plot ideas to add? Add them to the comments and we can build a story from there. It'd be kinda fun, don't you think?

On a more serious note -

HAPPY PI DAY (tomorrow).

It's a Negative ION Kinda Day

Yesterday's rain is gone and the warm temperatures are returning to the Bay Area. On days like this I get the ITCH to run away to the OCEAN and loll about in the warm sand. AHHHHH.

We have really good beaches here and they are soooo close - less than 1 hour away. Two or three even allow DOGS which is wonderful when the whole family wants to go to the beach. The air is warm and the water is BRACINGLY cold. Perfect PUG combo.

The last time we went to the beach there were seals and dolphins very close to the shore. Someone said they saw a WHALE but at the time they were pointing at ME so I think they were making a very bad joke. I am THE PERFECT pug size.

I don't know about you, but for me the SMELL of the salt air and the calming sound of the waves makes me so relaxed and happy.

Max Goes on an Adventure

This is my FURiend Max. He is my Auntie B's grandfurbaby. He looks pretty docile, huh? On a NORMAL day, he is pretty mellow and not too adventurous.

Well that was NOT the case YESTERDAY when Max decided to go on an adventure. Here's what happened.

It all started when Auntie B pulled out of the garage and headed to work. She petted Max and sent him to his pillow in the garage, like she always does. Then she pulled out of the garage - and once she was out she closed the garage door. Nothing too amazing with that, huh?

Only YESTERDAY, apparently Max had different ideas and BEFORE the garage door closed, he snuck out and stood in the shadows. What happened next is unknown because it was a while before the neighbor across the cul-de-sac spotted him. She was out in the yard with her grandkids who she was watching when she spotted Max laying in Auntie B's front yard. She knew no one was home and thought it very odd that Max was outside. So she attempted to corral him and put him in the yard. Max KNOWS her and likes her AND her grandkids.

But Max was having NONE of that! He was OUT and that was all there was to it. He made it clear when he sidled away whenever the neighbor attempted to get closer to him. At one point, MAX sauntered out of the cul-de-sac and wandered down the street to the tennis courts where he and Auntie B play catch. The neighbor and kids followed him (they made a game out of it) to make sure he was okay.

This went on ALL DAY with him going between the cul-de-sac and the park. Finally, the neighbor called Auntie B's husband to come and corral MAX. For his own safety, mind you. The neighborhood is very very quiet during the day but once work is done, people rush through on their way to their homes. Then it would be very dangerous for a dog to be wandering around off-leash.

When Auntie B got home, Max was just being put back into the yard. She was shocked and AMAZED that Max took off like that - and very very grateful that he was okay.

It is nice that the neighbor cared enough to keep an eye out for him.

Chew This 10 Times and Call Me in the Morning

We just got our MARCH package from Chewy.com and I cannot WAIT to report on it. In fact, I don't even want to do a full trial of this product because it means I will have to SHARE it and make it LAST for a specific amount of time!

Yes, Sydney from Chewy.com - I am willing to BREAK THE RULES in order to HOARD these treats for myself.

Let me give you some background on this declaration of REBELLION.

I wasn't supposed to like these treats. They are fish. I do not like fishy smelling and tasting food. But this month Mommy #1 and Mommy #2 decided we would try something completely off the grid. So she picked Evangers Freeze Dried Wild Salmon.

Why did she pick this particular treat? Even knowing I generally eschew FISH?

Simple - she wanted to try a food I WOULDN'T necessarily like but was sooooo good for us we SHOULD like it. She checked out Evanger's and found the 4.6 oz tub is chock full of

  • protein
  • nutrients
  • flavor
AND it is devoid of things we don't need like
  • gluten
  • sugar
  • saturated fat
PLUS. . . Evanger's uses Pacific caught Salmon, not farmed salmon. Then they gently dry the fish to maintain maximum tastiness AND healthfulness.

I, Noodles the Pug, was the variable in this experiment because I do not like fish. Guess what . . . I L-O-V-E these salmon treats. Crazy love like I will do almost any treat for this treat! Molly liked them. Sunshine liked them.

I
Love
Them

I suggest you order some TODAY from Chewy.com before I have a chance to run out and corner the market.

The Prodigal Toy

So. . . . I was rummaging through my room the other day and I came across something very interesting.

A toy.. . .

A Special Toy . . .

A SOCK MONKEY TOY!!!!!

I had forgotten about this one - my favorite toy in the whole world. I got a tiny one when I was a baby
pug. Then, as I got older (and after I trashed my old one(s) by ripping the arms and legs off), my Mommys bought me a larger SOCK MONKEY.

But when Molly the TERROR - ulp, I mean TERRIER ( this is unproven, she says, because MALTESE are not normally associated with the Terrier Group) - came along, I had to HIDE all of my favorite toys or she would take them and make them her own. Seriously!!! Nothing has changed re this behavior, mind you. She still takes my stuff and tries to commandeer it for her own pleasure. So I hid my SOCK MONKEY and forgot about it.

Then while looking through my organizer - I saw it. . .

DO you SEE it? Do YOU see it?

I was so happy I was jumping for joy.

Now. . . to find someplace to PUT SOCK MONKEY so that Molly won't find it . .  .

I wanna Be On A Cupcake

I have seen a few "pug" cupcakes. Most are more cartoonish than I would like to be.

I found this on GOOGLE and I think it is pretty amazing.

It almost looks like me except it is missing my diamond and my wonky ear.

What do you think?
