Lingual Lace

My tongue ripples just like lace
It really adds to my pretty face

It often creeps out really quick
To lick and lick and lick and lick

Occasionally it finds a spot
To savor food that might have dropped

The best thing that my tongue can do
Is give a kiss to you and you

Freckle Face

Hi. Sunshine the Cat here TAKING OVER the blog for a bit. I wanna discuss something that has been with me for a long time - FRECKLES.

Merriam Webster's Dictionary describes a FRECKLE as - 1freck·le noun \ˈfre-kəl\
: a small, brownish spot on someone's skin

If you look closely at my picture, you will see that I have a freckled nose. It doesn't hurt. . . in fact I cannot even feel it. It IS, however, frequently brought to my attention.

It makes me uniquely ME and not some random anonymous orange tabby. You might even call me the Jenny Weasley of the CAT WORLD. I am about as clever as she. . .

So that is all. I am a freckle faced cat and PROUD of it.

Ode to Maya Angelou

I loves loves loves Maya Angelou. Her passing has made me sad. So to cheer myself up, I am going to write a POEM in her honor.

ODE TO MAYA ANGELOU

Ms. Angelou you helped me soar
You made me think and think some more
Your words ignited a kind of fire
Spurred my action, stoked my ire

Along the way were the prettier ways
Kindness in action and what one says
Reminders of a gentler time
When our everyday had a rhythm and rhyme

I really thought you'd live forever
Sharing your thoughts, deep and clever
But now I see the path you laid
Is filled to the top with what you said

A LOT of THIS and Some of THAT

How was your MEMORIAL DAY? Mine was busy busy busy preparing for that big day we have approaching so very soon. . . GRADUATION DAY for Cousin E. She is graduating high school, as I believe I have mentioned a couple of times now. This is really something. She is the first of the household kids to graduate from high school although we have numerous puppy school and kindergarten graduates.

So the whole family was busy all WEEKEND doing stuff like cleaning out the garage and putting stuff away that we took out for holiday DECORATION and such. Molly and I were out there helping as well - we are very good at talking to the neighbors, warning everyone that the postman was approaching, and so on. Then after a solid 15 minutes of barking at one thing or another, we were thrown SENT  to the backyard to HELP Auntie T with weeding and assorted yard prep for the grad day BARBECUE. I made sure she put things in the right place. I am good at that. Molly just lazed in the shade.

I am just a busy busy PUGGY, what can I say?

I also went to the DOG PARK for about an hour and that was fun. There was a black pug there but he paid me no nevermind. However, there was this other small dog - I could not conclude a specific breed, though - and he followed me around EVERYWHERE!! I did not play, though. I was too busy scoping the field and making sure I knew where Cousin E was at all times.

Freedom of TREATS

Memorial Day is a day to honor those who serve our country and preserve our freedoms. One of the FREEDOMS I like best is the right to EAT and ENJOY TREATS.

It is a Freedom I intend to exercise as much as possible.

I recently got some very lovely treats to review Chewy.com - Andrew, our representative from Chewy.com, sent me and Molly some FROMMS FOUR STAR NUTRITIONALS treats in the CHICKEN, with CARROT and PEAS recipe.

Some FACTOIDS:
Fresh Chicken, Pea Flour, Potato Flour, Tapioca, Whole Peas, Chicken Fat, Tomato Pomace, Fresh Cranberries, Fresh Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Carrots, Fresh Apples, Fresh Split Peas, Fresh Green Beans, Fresh Green Bell Peppers, Fresh Celery, Fresh Beets, Fresh Parsley, Fresh Lettuce, Fresh Watercress, Fresh Spinach

DO YOU SEE ANY NON-FOOD IN THIS LIST???? Me neither

Key Benefits

  • Contains free-range chicken
  • Made without grains, a common allergy trigger for dogs
  • Made with USDA-inspected ingredients delivered fresh daily
  • Perfect size for training

I'LL SAY those are some COMPELLING reasons to get these treats.

SO they are GOOD and GOOD for YOU!

OMP!!! Those are all of my favorite things. And I always get so excited when I get a box from Chewy.com!!! Well these treats were well worth the excitement and the exhortations to be STILL and SIT. Mommy gave us each one - which took a little while to eat because they are BIG!!! BUT as soon as I finished that big COOKIE I wanted another. . . and another. . . and another. . .

Yes folks, they are THAT GOOD! TOOTHSOME and bursting with complex flavors. OMP, my jowls are leaking as I write this!!!

So in a nutshell, I give these treats a 5 paws up as the MOST trick-worthy of treats. Try them. I KNOW you will like them.

I was not paid to endorse this product. I was given the product free to try it and give my honest opinion. This is my opinion.

Thanks for the opportunity, www.chew.com

Thursday Throwing It Back for a Happy Thing

I was 12 weeks old when my Mommys adopted me. I was the size of a football and a little under 9 pounds. That hardly seems possible now, huh?

This sock monkey (Socky) was my first toy and I guess you can tell it was my favorite. I could not go anywhere without it. I slept with Socky, played with Socky, stared at Socky. . . you get the picture. One day Socky was no more. It was almost a year later and his squeaker was gone as was most of his stuffing. When his second arm came off, well it was time to retire him to the toy farm. I missed him a lot. I looked for him for a very very long time.

To make me feel better, Mommy bought me a larger Sock Monkey toy which I still have. But it was not the same as Socky. I missed him SO.

That is until Mommy got me the ultimate SOCK MONKEY -

It's a Carton, NOT a Cartoon

Mommy said I was in for a lot of fun when the CARTOON arrives.

I had NO idea what she was referring to . . . So I asked her, "Mommy? What is a CARTOON? She looked at me a little puzzled, like she couldn't figure out why I was asking about something so off the wall, as it were. So she explained that a cartoon is

Wikipedia
A cartoon is a form of two-dimensional illustrated visual art. While the specific definition has changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-realistic ...

OHHHHHHHHHHH! I remember what she is referring to NOW. I already have one . . . So,  I settled in to wait for Mr. Rene, the cartoon man from Zoey's birthday party. He was so nice and made cartoons of all of the pugs and pups at the PAWTY, He did this one of me. It is pretty cute, huh? I would love to have a series of them scattered through my BIG ROOM (the pen). Art makes your space so cozy, don't you think?

I started to plan out the setting and the pose, hoping I would NOT have to include MOLLY in my own PUGsonal cartoon. Sharing is okay once in a while. . . but not always.

I was puzzled why we would have Mr. Rene over when we were not even having a party yet. We WILL have one next month when Cousin E graduates from high school.

But not now, not today, tomorrow or the next day.

I waited . . . and I waited. . . and I WAITED. No Mr. Rene. A couple of mail trucks came by but I knew he was NOT a mailman of any sort so I did not pay attention to them. I was too busy looking for PROPS.

Then Mommy called me into the kitchen to see what had arrived. IT WAS A CARTON . . . no, there were TWO CARTONS . . . one  was from Bark Box and the other from Chewy.com. Mommy had bought treats from BOTH of them for Molly and me because we have been such good pups of late (to tell the truth, I think we were out of treats and she was too lazy to go to the store and buy some).

This was almost more exciting than Mr. Rene, who I quickly surmised was NOT coming over to draw a CARTOON of me. I am a little disappointed at that. . . but as I sit here with Halo Liv-a-Little chicken treats on my breath. . . I think I'll get over it.

High Five-ish

HIGH FIVE, Noodles. . .

Yeah, I hear this every once in a while. I am not sure what it means but I do know what is expected of me. You can see in this picture what the command is for - I am to raise my paw in a kind of salute. Normally my humans would MATCH my paw with theirs and call it a high five.

As opposed to a LOW FIVE, I am guessing

I do it because I receive two things I dearly LOVE in return for the HIGH FIVE: Treats and Praise. I will do almost anything for those two things. TREATS more than praise, although there is nothing I love more than pleasing my MOMMYS.

And it always makes the humans SMILE when I perform my MARVELOUS HIGH FIVE trick. I am guessing it looks amusing and cute. Not sure they notice the PRECARIOUS balance I have to do on THREE legs rather than my more normal FOUR legs.

In any case, I do it and I do it well. And it makes me HAPPY to do so.

Heat Wave = Fires in San Diego = ?

Some of you are worried that I might be close to the many wildfires raging in the San Diego area of CALI. Thanks for your concerns. Luckily I am NOT in that part of the state.

The fog has returned to our NORCAL coastline and with it some relief from the heat. I can still use my pool cuz it is warm and sunny - but the heat is not overwhelming.

Have a great weekend everypuggy!

If You Love a Song Then Stick With It . . .

SING - adapted from "Sing" by Ed Sheeran

I need to sing
Come on set the tone
If you feel joining in
Won't you let me know
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
If you love a song, come on and sit
If you love a song - then stick with it
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh

Sing!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh [x2]
Louder!

Hot, Hot, Hot. . .

Our Weather Lady - who happens to be a PUG mom - alerted us all to the upward trend in Bay Area temperatures over the next TWO WEEKS! Yes, we could see temperatures UPWARDS of 100 degrees (f). OMP! Those are just NOT friendly puggy temps, I tell you.

It looks like it is time to
1. CRANK up the AC
2. FILL up the pool
3. STAY indoors where it is cooler
4. KEEP hydrated with plenty of WATER

This drought is not showing signs of letting up, either. The hot weather means drier hills (THANK GOOD NESS for the rain we had a couple of weeks ago as the grass on the hillsides is still a little green) and more fire danger. And all about 2 months too early. We are normally BLESSED with mild Spring weather - temps in the 70s. Not this year. It is defying all logic and historical records.

If this isn't global warming - then WHAT IS IT??????

"LETTUCE Go"

. . .  Don’t let MOLLY in, don’t let MOLLY see
Be the PUG girl you always have to be
HIDE IT ALL, don’t think to SHARE, don’t let IT SHOW
UGH, Now SHE knows

LETTUCE go, LETTUCE go
Can’t HIDE IT ALL anymore
LETTUCE go, LETTUCE go
Turn away and slam the door

I don’t care
What My MOM will say
Let MOLLY rage on,
I NEVER LIKED SHARING WITH HER anyway

Sunshine All Over

Hi EveryPUGGY!!!! Yesterday was a very special day INDEED. It was Sunshine the Cat's ELEVENTY birthday! Yes, you heard right - she has been a part of this family for that many years. Unbelievable.

She was in her usual stand-offish mood until the 'rents came home shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY and passing out TREATS. Then she was all into the ACT.

To make it seem like more fun for ALL OF US, Cousin E decided to try the PARTY hat on all of us. In order to accomplish this she also had to LAY A FEW treats on us. I am not complaining, just stating the facts.

Molly and I were UBER cooperative since we are, a-hem, canines. The CAT, uh . . . not so much. No amount of treats would make that feline keep the hat on the noggin. It all came down to this ->

It's MY Party and I will DO as I want . . .

Happy Birthday Sunshine the Cat and here's to MANY MANY more.

SPORTY FORTY

WOOHOO. . .
I am 40 posts away from my 1,000th post!!! That sure went fast, huh? I started blogging just shy of my 1st birthday. It was then I decided to post 5 days a week with an occasional weekend thrown in. I have been pretty good about maintaining that schedule, too.

Do you know WHY I keep blogging? Well, mainly it WAS because my Mommy #2 is a frustrated writer and thought this was something she and Mommy #1, then a little kid just learning to compose, could do together. And they do. While Mommy #2 does almost all of the writing (you REALLY thought it was ME????), Mommy #1 and Cousin E take almost all of the photos that I use. The ideas come from WHERE? I dunno - maybe life.
But the MAIN reason I KEEP ON blogging is all of the wonderful FURiends I have made along the way. I have met quite a few of you - those in NORCAL. I hope to meet even more of you as time marches on and opportunities present themselves.
As a bonus, I LEARN so much from Blogville and my FURiends who blog. What a great resource it is. So, thank you all.
I can't wait to see what I will BLOG ABOUT next.
