It's All About the Presidents. . . or IS It?

Today is President's Day although, to be honest, I don't know of a single President who was born on this day. Lemme GOOGLE that. . .
Here's what I found

  1. George Washington - Feb 22
  2. William Henry Harrison - Feb 9
  3. Abraham Lincoln - Feb 12
  4. Ronald Reagan - Feb 6
Note, none on February 15. So while thinking about this phenomenon, I decided that perhaps this country celebrates like some tech companies. . . February Birthdays. . . March Birthdays. . . April Birthdays. . . and so on. BUT we really don't celebrate any other Presidents' birthdays. Why is that? Why is there no Millard Fillmore day (January 7, BTW)?

This celebrating stuff is so confusing to me because SOMETIMES a special day is celebrated and sometimes it is NOT. And other times we celebrate on days CLOSE to the special day (like the Chinese New Year parade in China Town is ABOUT 2 weeks from the beginning of Chinese New Year and WHY is there a 12 day celebratory period anyHOO?) and sometimes we celebrate the MONDAY after the actual holiday (like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and so on). That makes things all neat and tidy, huh?

I reckon if we celebrated EVERYTHING then there would be more days off than work days and nothing would get done, huh? But I do wonder who decides what will be a holiday or what misses the cut.

My Mommy #2 used to decide the company holidays for her work. There were no real guidelines other than everyone got 10 paid holidays and Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day were required. So when Mommy chose a holiday to put on the list, it came down to (1) school days off, (2) vacation plans, and (3) convenience.

In summation, instead of calling today Presidents' Day when we are only celebrating a FEW presidents, I think we should call today a CONVENIENCE HOLIDAY and while we are at it, celebrate a few Presidents' birthdays.

WE are all confused by this One also, Noodles. We guess it is all about the precious THREE DAY WEEKEND... OR the Beloved FOUR DAY WORK WEEK.

OUr mom had to work today - well she volunteered to work. She had Thur, Fri off last week for her b-day. Somebody had to do payroll today so mom told her co worker she would come in so the co worker could have a long weekend too

Mom said it was George Birthington's Washday. I guess he needed the day off to do the laundry.

They used to celebrate Washington's birthday on the 22 and Lincoln's birthday on the 12th, but that was too much time off! So they combined the two and moved it to the Monday in the middle.

Wishing you a Happy Convenience Day, Noodles! :)
My dad was sitting at his desk most of the day so I guess his company doesn't care about what president was born when. I do like the holidays though because it means I get more belly rub opportunities!
