Claire, Jamie and . . . . . . HAMMISH?

My Mommy #2 is a little obsessed with Claire and Jamie. Oh, they are not real people. They are characters in the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon - NOW a television series on STARZ.
She often thinks about how them. She frequently chats with my Aunties about the show or the books (which she read TWICE). It is always Jamie, this. . . and Claire, that.

Claire and Jamie

Her love of all things Scottish (like that segue? Sneaky, huh?) began a long long time ago when she visited Scotland for the first time. It wasn't the haggis or the whisky that captured her interest. Neither was it the men in Edinburgh wearing kilts (which she decided were DEFINITELY masculine and handsome) nor the woolly cows scattered around the green hills. NO. . . it was the HEATHER scattered over the mountains and the welcoming town of Inverness. She went there for a 1 night visit and stayed for 4. It was cold and rainy most of the time - and yet she had seldom seen a lovelier place than that.

So she came home toting several sweaters (jumpers), jams and tartan scarves from Scotland. She studied the language (casually and cannot recall a thing), researched the clans, and generally decided it was a bonny place indeed. Our house still bears the scattered remains of her souvenirs of Scotland.

During an episode of "Outlander" two weeks ago, she sprang a surprise on me. We were going to have a tartan-clad visitor arriving in a couple of days. Who was it going to be? I asked? Claire? Jamie?

I waited patiently by the door on the day the visitor was due to arrive. I sat a long long time.

Who are YOU?

At last he arrived. In a package. I was PERPLEXED.

Who are you? I asked. What CLAN are you from? I honestly have never seen a tartan in that shade of lavender.

Meet Hammish

I am HAMMISH from Clan Pugnotes. And I am here to stay with you forever and be your B.F.F.
So we played and played in our yard. We played until the sun went down and we were called in for dinner.

Afterward, I settled next to Mommy to watch a bit of TELLY (television). I looked all around for HAMMISH and could not find him. I was on the verge of tears when I checked the bedroom. This is what I found.

I guess I wore him out.

This is the START of a GREAT FURiendship.

SHE'd love to go to Scotland....loves men in kilts, too. Australia played Scotland in Rugby a few years ago and LOADS of kilt-wearing fans roamed around Sydney.

Now, we don't tell many people this, but, you know we're scotties and a spotty. Well, SHE wears a night shirt that says 'Team Pug'!

Howdy Mates. Wowza and yaahoo, our mum loves the Diana Gabaldon series too. She has just finished watching the first series on DVD. Our sissy worked in Edinburgh for three weeks about 12 years when she was on a working holiday. She loved it too. We have Scottish heritage on our Dad's side. Welcome Hammish. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Momma and my angel aunt Kaitlin spent some time near Inverness once many years ago, in a cabin by the loch. She loved it!
