Gong Xi Fa Cai - Happy Year of the Horse

Welcome to the Year of the Horse. It is supposed to be a much happier year than last year's SNAKE. I think we can all use a little more HAPPY in our lives.

For that reason, I have chosen to kick off the NEW YEAR with a new ONE HUNDRED. Thanks to Emma and Sequoia from Southern Fried Pugs, we are going to be counting HAPPY THINGS.

ONE: FURiends
Furiends make me feel so good. They tell me I am funny. They listen to me when I am not so funny. They even give me a hand when I am down on my FUN. Without FURiends my life would be one-dimensional and colorless. They make the sun rise in the morning and the stars twinkle at night. Yes, FURiends are the HAPPIEST thing I can think of.

I'm Wishing on a Star - Maybe George Clooney?

Northern California is having a DROUGHT. The overlords of the water have been using this excuse for a number of years to validate raising our rates. But this time it is TRUE! We have not had much water at all over the past year (no matter how much I complain about every drop coming from the sky) - and now the reservoirs are drying up.

So I am wishing on the most powerful star I know - George Clooney - to help end our drought. Send us SOME rain, soon!  If anyone can help, I am sure he can.

Stella and the other Three Little Pugs added to our growing ONE HUNDRED list.

20. One Hundred WAYS TO DRIVE YOUR PAWRENTS CRAZY

Change for a Change

What do I KNOW, I am only a PUG. Well, I know that FOOD is good. I know that a nice long snuggle beats a nice long BATH any day. And I know that ALL things must CHANGE.

This week we change from the SNAKE to the HORSE on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. It is a very different year from before as the Horse KICKS the Snake out. A Horse year is considered a lucky year - one of looking forward rather than behind.

So get ready because FRIDAY is the beginning of the change.

OH! By the WAY! I got some very HORSE-like suggestions for the new 100 from Wesley McPoodleton. I guess he was embarrassed by his first suggestion and has worked hard on submitting a few more. So here they are:

  1. One Hundred Inspirational Thoughts
  2. One Hundred Words that Mean Happy
  3. One Hundred Good Deeds
  4. One Hundred Ways to Brighten Someone's Day
  5. One Hundred Simple Pleasures
AND Molly Raguffin, my sister, suggested One Hundred Ways to Snooze

Remember Deadline for suggestions is Wednesday January 29, 2014. I will start the One Hundred on Friday, January 31 - the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Picky Eaters Unite And Give Me All Your Food

Not me! I am not a picky eater. In fact, I am the OPPOSITE of a picky eater! There is almost NOTHING I won't eat. . . almost . . . I don't eat poop . . . or road kill . . . or raw spinach . . . I like to think that I have a HAPPY and HEALTHY relationship with food.

What do I get for this GOOD ATTITUDE? Constant diets and minimal or no treats.

Then there is Molly. When it comes to her meal she is more inclined to turn her nose up at the GOOD FOOD in her dish than to eat it. Her Mommies buy top of the line food for her and when they feed it to her the first time she acts like she can't get enough. Ah! But the second serving is another story. She picks at it. Then the third bowl she refuses to eat so they add stuff to it - yogurt, gravy, and so on. Eventually, and by that I mean in a week's time, she gets to the point where she will only eat the toppings and spit out the food.

I try to help her out so she does not get in TROUBLE for not eating her meal. I stand by her dish - well about 3 feet away, actually - to make sure Sunshine the Cat does not try to home in on her food while she is begging for something, ANYTHING other than what is in her bowl. I wait and I wait - hoping that she will come back and eat. REALLY!!!! Then, when she appears to have no interest in the food, I swoop in and clean up her bowl so the Mommies are none the wiser.

What do I get as a reward? Molly runs after me and growls like I stole the food out of her mouth. Then she looks at the humans with that wide-eyed PAINED expression she has perfected. I get banished from the kitchen and Molly gets . . . . a treat.

My treats, her treats. . . . treats.

The List is GROWING

Tuesday Trumps Monday

I love looking at this picture, drooling

I have NO IDEA what I mean by that. It just sounded crazy and clever. But SOMETIMES I do wonder what makes Monday such a bad day and Tuesday that much better? I get that neither are weekends and therefore are not FUN DAYS. That being true, they are equally weekdays and activity-wise one is not much different than the next. Relative distance to the next weekend, sure that is a difference. . . but then that means one is only focusing on the weekends and missing out on the GOOD things that happen each and every day.

Screeeech!!! HALT there Soldier! That is too philosophical for a Tuesday. Move ALONG!

Which brings me back to ONE HUNDRED DAYS. Not a lot of suggestions but then you do have EIGHT more days to help me out. Here is what I have so far

  1. Wesley McPoodleton suggested more HAPPINESS
  2. Idaho Pug Ranch also suggested more HAPPY THOUGHTS
  3. Jessie Jane suggested 100 days of Sunshine the Cat (not gonna happen)
  4. Southern Fried Pugs suggested 100 HAPPY THINGS
  5. Susie and Sidebite suggested more HAPPY THOUGHTS
  6. Frank the Tank suggested more HAPPY THOUGHTS
  7. Mommy #1 suggested 100 NOODLES' FACTS (blush)

Stretch your imaginations FURiends. I know you can come up with something clever. Although I have no qualms about doing more HAPPY THOUGHTS, I feel ready to move on.

One Thousand, Awesome A's, One Hundred and Stuff

So I was watching a video this morning - the morning AFTER my team lost its big football game.

The VIDEO is called The Three A's of Awesome, by Neil Pasricha. WHO is he? He is just a guy whose life started to not be so good - failed marriage, friend's suicide, bad economy. . . so he started a blog which championed 1000 Awesome things to celebrate - like being the first one to get your plate served at dinner. And the point of his whole blog is to remind people to celebrate the little successes we all have and usually forget while we wallow in our sorrows. His little blog went on to win a Webbie for Best Blog. All of which is just an explanation of who he is and what gives him his cred.

Anyhow, his video is about the three things he found that help us see the good in life: Attitude, Awareness and Authenticity. I have that - I have ATTITUDE, I am AWARE that I am a Pug Princess, and I am AUTHENTICALLY great. I have those things going for me already. His chat had me thinking, though,
about my Hundred Happy Thoughts from last year and how fun it was to write them.

And how much better they made me feel when I was a little down, like today. So I think I am going to start another HUNDRED. But what?

CONTEST ALERT!!!!

I plan to START on Chinese New Year - January 31 - and get a leg up on The Year of the Horse (hey. . . that was an unintended pun there). So help me out with some ideas, Okay?

You have until Midnight (Pacific Time) on January 29 to submit suggestions. I will randomize the entries and chose one. Whoever submitted the idea I chose will win a prize. Not sure what it is BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT and fitting for Chinese New Year.

Put your thinking caps on now! The Checkered Flag drops NOW!

I Doubt It's a Drought But What Do I Know?

This photo was taken January 1!! Looks like Fall but was Winter!

There is talk in CALIFORNIA about us being in a drought. I looked up the word in the ONLINE dictionary and this is what it said -

drought noun \ˈdrat\
: a long period of time during which there is very little or no rain

Well, that certainly describes our CURRENT weather - it is clear and warm today, record-breaking temperatures. But that hasn't been the case all winter where were experienced record-breaking cold just days before Christmas. And regarding rain, well I remember Fall as being kinda rainy and cool. So that doesn't really sound like a drought to me.

A columnist in the SF newspaper described the situation more accurately than this D-R-O-U-G-H-T word does. He described it as weather weirdness and THAT is what we need to be afraid of.

Weirdness.

weird adjective \ˈwird\
: unusual or strange

But what do I know? I'm a pug AND only 4 years old, at that. But what I do know, and which is evidenced in the above photo, is that the weather has certainly been W-E-I-R-D for a long time and that has me a little worried. We do all kinds of things at our house to help preserve the planet and stop this thing called Global Warming. While the warming part sounds okay, Mommy explained that over all it messes with ecosystems and oceans and stuff like that. And once you do that, plant and animal life has trouble finding an environment to sustain them and they die off. I don't want to think of the AND which comes after this happening.

What I'll Do For Treats . . .

Thanks Chewy.com
 The Treat
Science Diet Fruity Snacks are COOKIES that are good for Pups! They are made with Ground Wheat, Oat Flour, Dried Apples, Oatmeal, Chicken Meal, Flaxseed, Beet Pulp, Molasses, Calcium Carbonate, Salt, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols & citric acid).
Use caution if your PET has any allergy to wheat. Lucky for me - I DO NOT!
These treats are crunchy and contain real fruit and oatmeal for digestion. They also have flaxseed to help maintain a shiny coat. Notice the beet pulp - that is a natural sweetener so there is no refined sugar in these snacks, either!

But Is It Worthy?

I think I have mentioned it before that I measure a treat's worthiness by the level of trick I am willing to perform for it. There are treats I will sit and MAYBE shake for (freeze-dried liver snacks); treats I will sit calmly and but beg intently for ( real chicken); and treats I will do ANYTHING for (those Halo chicken snax). For me to go out of my way to do a trick, the treat has to be (1) tasty, (2) smell good TO ME, (3) be a reasonable size - not to big and not an ort, and (4) be good and not fattening for me (Mommy put this one in here. . . I don't care. . . but then again, a thick waistline means less snacks so on principle I agree).

This is what I think of Science Diet Fruity Snacks:

Yep. I'd buy them.

You can get Science Diet Fruity Snacks any place that sells quality dog food. But make it easy on yourself and order them from www.Chewy.com! They carry Science Diet Fruity Snacks and a lot more - and with Chewy.com you get low prices, fast shipping, and great customer service.

This is a review for a product that was provided free of charge to me. That being said, all of the opinions expressed in this review are mine alone (sometimes I let Mommy have a word or two. . . but usually it is me). I have not been paid or otherwise compensated in any other way.

Fun with Words (another Mad Lib), Football, Fandom . . . whatta weekend!

I had two last entries into the MAD LIBS fun - this was from Frankie Furter and I felt it worthy of publishing

Name         Frankie
plur. N        Keys
Proper N    Google
Past te. V    Strolled
verb            dig

Adj              tiny
adj               shiny
Plur. Noun   Bones

A young boy named Anakin Skywalker, incredibly strong with the Force, is discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and his padawan Frankie Kenobi. Qui-Gon believes Anakin is the Chosen One, prophesied to bring Keys to the Google. After Qui-Gon is Strolled by the hideous Darth Maul, Obi-Wan defeats this Sith apprentice and then, over the strong objections of Master Yoda, obeys his master's final wish to dig the boy. Anakin grows powerful with the Force, and his skill causes him to become decorated and chafe against Obi-Wan's training, which he feels is restrictive. Against the strictest rules of the Jedi Order, Anakin falls in love with Padmé Amidala, Queen and later Senator of Grocery Store. The two wed in secret, an act forbidden for Jedi due to the inherent emotional vulnerability.

The Clone Wars begin to rage through every part of the known galaxy, and the Jedi fight quickly to bring peace back to the Republic. Anakin and Padmé continue to keep their marriage a secret, but soon Padmé becomes accidently. Although thrilled by the news, Anakin begins to have visions of Padmé's death. The secretive nature of their relationship forces him to seek help outside of the Jedi order, and he desperately asks aid of Chancellor Ernie whose tiny and shiny Bones are increasing daily.

And another from Ernie, his brother

Qui-Gon believes Anakin is the Chosen One, prophesied to bring plungers to the Lowes. After Qui-Gon is ate by the hideous Darth Maul, Obi-Wan defeats this Sith apprentice and then, over the strong objections of Master Yoda, obeys his master's final wish to use the boy. Anakin grows powerful with the Force, and his skill causes him to become puffy and chafe against Obi-Wan's training, which he feels is restrictive. Against the strictest rules of the Jedi Order, Anakin falls in love with Padmé Amidala, Queen and later Senator of Police Station. The two wed in secret, an act forbidden for Jedi due to the inherent emotional vulnerability.

The secretive nature of their relationship forces him to seek help outside of the Jedi order, and he desperately asks aid of Chancellor Frankie whose slippery and brown collars are increasing daily.

I yesterday afternoon curled up on my Mommy #2's lap as she watched FOOTBALL. I don't know too much about football as I am a HOCKEY kinda gal (Joe Thornton, swoooooooooon). But I am cool with sports in general so I helped support my MOMMY'S team, the SF 49Niners!!! It was some game. And it was really hard to see with all of the deep shadows on the field. In the end, our local team was victorious so we were all happy. We celebrated with Victory Nachos (regular nachos but sweetened with a win by our team).
Then we did boring stuff like fold laundry, wash dishes, etc. Ah! But then it was time for the Golden Globes. To be honest, I fell asleep for most of it. I know there was some interesting dresses and even more interesting speeches. It appears many of the nominees were not prepared to win. Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are NOMINATED in a field of 5 shouldn't you figure your odds are pretty good to (1) win and (2) need to give a speech. And as one radio personality pointed out this am - these were actresses. . . and giving a speech is basically giving a performance. Are they really the TOP of their field if they cannot adlib something????
But I did like the emcees. To me, there are not two funnier ladies than Tina Fey and Amy Pohler. Their humor is witty, timely and intelligent.

Whew!!! That is WAY too much thinking for a MONDAY.

Mad Libs Come Alive . . .

Thank you to all who participated. If you didn't complete your fill-in yet, that's okay. I will post it on Monday when you do. Don't peek at the STORY, though. I don't want you to be INFLUENCED at all.
Keep it REAL Folk!

Here is my fill-in and story

A young boy named Anakin Skywalker, incredibly strong with the Force, is discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and his padawan Goober Kenobi. Qui-Gon believes Anakin is the Chosen One, prophesied to bring chicks to the Safeway. After Qui-Gon is walked by the hideous Darth Maul, Obi-Wan defeats this Sith apprentice and then, over the strong objections of Master Yoda, obeys his master's final wish to prance the boy. Anakin grows powerful with the Force, and his skill causes him to become gorgeous and chafe against Obi-Wan's training, which he feels is restrictive. Against the strictest rules of the Jedi Order, Anakin falls in love with Padmé Amidala, Queen and later Senator of West. The two wed in secret, an act forbidden for Jedi due to the inherent emotional vulnerability.

The Clone Wars begin to rage through every part of the known galaxy, and the Jedi fight quickly to bring peace back to the Republic. Anakin and Padmé continue to keep their marriage a secret, but soon Padmé becomes red. Although thrilled by the news, Anakin begins to have visions of Padmé's death. The secretive nature of their relationship forces him to seek help outside of the Jedi order, and he desperately asks aid of Chancellor Han whose Big and Tall gardens are increasing daily.

Taking BACK My Blog

I am taking back my blog!
Taking it back from the CAT
Taking it back from the MOP (Molly)
Taking it BACK from nothing
Taking BACK my BLOG

I think is some respects this blog has become less about ME and more about the rest of the family. When was the last time I wrote about ME - Princess Pug Noodles? Well, that is gonna change as I am poised to take back my blog and write only about ME. . .ME. . .ME!!!!

Of course, in order to do that I need to (1) get the human to pay attention to me; and (2) grow some thumbs so I am no longer dependent on the human.

Well, I may not be able to achieve either of those right now. . . so I guess FOR TODAY I am taking BACK my BLOG.

Mommy #2 found this Star Wars Mad Libs book and I CANNOT get her to put it down. What is so appealing about MAD LIBS??? Here is an example:

Lib Intro: A young boy named Anakin Skywalker, incredibly strong with the Force, is discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and his padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Sending Some Warm and Sunshiney Days EAST

Is that KID over there eating a HOTDOG????

This picture was taken on New Years Day. I know, the leaves all over the place make it look like FALL; but it's not. Even the trees are a little confused by our Winter, so far. We had some wickedly cold days toward the end of FALL - and for you out there scoffing at this Cali Gurl saying it was cold - we are talking massive freeze throughout the Bay Area and predictions of snow on the valley floor. The snow didn't come but more than a week of 25-30 degree weather was tough on us.

We live in a very moderate climate. Temperatures in the Winter hover around 60 degrees and rain is infrequent. Just enough to make the hills green all Spring. In the summer, the average temperature is mid 80s and precipitation is low. There are years where this formula is shaken up a little - but this is nonetheless the norm.

So on New Years Day, Me, Mommy #2, Molly and her humans went to the park for a walk. It was warm - shirt sleeve warm, as Mommy calls it. Yet it was cool enough that I was not panting like crazy and making people stare at Mommy like she is a PUG abuser! In a word - PERFECT.

So as a New Year's present to all of my fans in Blogville who are shivering under the blanket of Artic Air right now, I am sending you some of our C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A warmth to help you get through it. I hope it warms you right up because you are that special to me.

Workin' From Home

When Mommy #2 works from home, like today, she seldom has time for anything. I get all excited when she doesn't get up at the crack of dawn and gets ready for work BECAUSE I am thinking of all the snuggles I'm gonna get! But I am usually wrong - when Mommy works from home, she still gets up and dressed as if she is going to work (albeit later than usual). She sits at the computer scratching her head and flipping papers ALL DAY. The closest thing to a snuggle I get is when I settle by her feet. . . no, ON her feet. Then at least I am warmed by her body heat and comforted by her smell.

Ahhhh! BUT then there is my blog. It seems Mommy has less time to work on it when she WORKS from home than when she is in her office far away!!! Whattha!!!!! She explained it to me quite simply: At work I get a break where I have no obligations to the office. That is the time I use to type your blog and edit your pictures. When I work from home there ARE NO breaks! Anytime, I am not working on WORK STUFF, I am performing chores around the house that need to get done. And if truth be told. . . the chores are usually the reason I worked from home to BEGIN with.

Poor Mommy. I guess I should be more understanding, huh? But then again. . . there is that issue of SNUGGLES. . .

I saw on TV that you folks in the MIDWEST and EAST . . .  well, basically EAST of the ROCKIES . . .are suffering through some pretty miserable weather. I watched the Niners vs Packers game AND the Winter Classic. I know what cold LOOKS LIKE. It is even cold here in CA but then we are talking 56 degrees as compared to -56 degrees.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Promise me you will be safe, stay warm and abide by all the directives to stay off the roads when you can. And PEOPLES. . . bring your pets inside!!! There is no need to make them suffer and freeze to death like that.
