Tahoe Talk - Day Six (Wrap Up)

This morning I took a nice long walk around the Meadows. They have changed a lot since the first day we arrived. For one thing, the wildflowers are changing! Yes - gone are the purples and blues. In their place is an abundance of yellow and red. Some of the grasses that were bright green the first day we walked are turning golden. In a couple of weeks, I wonder if there will be any flowers at all?

It is warm already this morning, unlike the earlier part of the week where it was chilly until almost noon. And the humidity is back. Not quite as bad as yesterday afternoon when it suddenly began to cloud up. Then about an hour before sundown we heard a clap of thunder and then the pitter patter of raindrops. The thunderstorm lasted a scant 10 minutes but reoccurred several times over the course of the evening.

The air has that freshly scrubbed smell to it. Heavenly, I must say. This whole place is like a slice of Heaven. Yes, there is a lot of traffic outside of the Meadows. Yes, there are globs of tourists everywhere - outside of the Meadows. But inside these gates there is a serenity and splendor that those on the outside can only imagine. Where else can a little pug go for walks filled with fragrant flowers, tinged with the warmth of sunlight and kissed by the fresh mountain breeze?

Tomorrow we head back to the Bay Area and it's myriad social impositions. But I think we will all retain a little of the mountains in our souls - at least for a while.

Tahoe Talk - Day Five (Chillaxin')

There is something so serene
Sleeping in a sliver of sun
I feel so warm and sleepy
And not at all ready for fun

Maybe later when the sun moves on
I'll be ready for adventure
A walk around the meadows
Or perhaps a swimming caper

For now I think I'll only move
Where ever my friendly beam tends
Dreaming about the fun I'll have
When my morning slumber ends

Tahoe Talk - Day Four (The Beach and Me)

Me, the beach and beautiful Lake Tahoe

I love the beach here at Tahoe Meadows. It is small, like me, and  pretty. I can chase the water as it runs toward me and away again. I can sit in the sand and enjoy the view. Best of all - I get lots of attention for being the cutest pug on the beach. Really, I draw quite a crowd whenever I go to the beach.

Uh, Mommy. I am not sure I like this

Swimming, I am not so sure about it. I mean, the water feels delicious and all. And I am actually quite good at it, if I do say so myself. But I have to admit I am a bit intimidated by it - by not having my feet touch solid ground. I swam some last year when we came to the lake, but this year Mommy wanted me extra safe so she got me a flotation device (life jacket). It is super cool and is a bright blue. I look so C-U-T-E in it as well.

We stayed at the beach for some time. It was warm and there was a nice breeze that kept it from being hot. I lazed in my shelter for a while and then near my Mommy's feet. It was very relaxing.

I ran beside Mommy #1's bike on the way back to the cabin. I am getting pretty good at it, if I do say so. It certainly gets me my exercise! Whew!!

Tomorrow Cousin M from Sparks is coming over to visit us. It will be so much fun to have her here. Then on Friday Auntie B will join us!

Tahoe Talk - Day Three (The Meadows)

I want to share my meadows with you

Lupine
Early in the morning when the sun is low
I take my walk around the meadow
The air is still fresh and new
Filled with colorful flowers and shimmery dew
If I am lucky and very quiet
A rabbit, squirrel, or chipmunk will appear
Dragonflies and butterflies flit by and disappear
Over yonder what do I spy?
A tiny gray lizard running by
My walk comes to a close as I near the cabin
I can't wait to explore the meadows again

Tahoe Talk - Day Two

The view from our cabin.
Hello from Lake Tahoe
As you can tell, I am writing my adventures a day behind because, frankly, when I start writing nothing has yet happened.
But you will get the whole story, I promise.

Following the COYOTE INCIDENT of day one, we were a little freaked out. Every little sound had me yipping my little heart out and it took quite a while for us all to calm down and sleep. There were no COYOTE sounds our first night.

Last night was a whole 'nother tale as we "enjoyed" a COYOTE SYMPHONY right after sundown.

But on to my SECOND DAY adventures. The day dawned bright and cool. Mommy took me out for my morning bidness which means WALK #1. I love walking around here as there are few cars and lots on interesting smells. All in all, we took FIVE WALKS throughout the day. I napped a lot ;-) inbetween walks.

One of my naps
The air is really crisp and fresh here and I LOVES LOVES LOVES the taste of the breeze as I walk along. I met up with Echo, the dog I met yesterday when we had the COYOTE ENCOUNTER. She was walking beside her mommy as her mommy RODE A BIKE! How novel! I never even considered that. I might be able to convince my Mommys to let me try it before we leave the meadows.

Aside from the BBQ chicken I had for dinner last night, I had one last adventure - my Mommys got me the BIGGEST Bully Stick I have ever seen! It is almost too big for me to handle. But I am trying - between naps.

Tahoe Talk - First Day

Hello my pals in Blogville. We finally made it to the lovely south shore of Lake Tahoe. It was a pretty long drive (about 4-5 hours, I am told) but I just chilled in my crate, snoring and occasionally watching the scenery change.
We arrived mid afternoon and unloaded the car. I was the last to be unloaded, harrrrruumph! Because of the coyotes and bears, I am not allowed off leash. Once the car was empty, I was finally allowed to relieve myself! And whatta relief it was!
The rest of the afternoon was uneventful and I played with a chewy treat most of the time. The Mommys were setting things up, putting things away, and so on.
Après dinner we all took a walk around the meadows. It was a lovely time of the evening and the day was cooling off so nicely that I hardly panted at all. We met up with this other doggy who was walking her mommy. She was a senior cocker spaniel named Echo (pretty name huh? She was named after a Sierra lake near Tahoe). She is deaf but you can't really tell.
All of a sudden they stopped and said GULP really loudly. Up ahead were two HUGE coyotes staring hungrily at Echo and Moi! They were scary looking. We weren't too sure what to do but Echo's mommy suggested we walk as a group and talk very loudly. Maybe, she thought, it will scare them. It didn't really scare them but they did start to walk away some, slowly. We kept walking and talking loudly and saw that the coyotes had turned a corner - the corner WE were heading toward. We saw one pooping near the softball field but not the other. I think he said "You do your thing Dude, I am going over here!"
Hee hee.
Then we saw why. A Bluejay was dive bombing at the coyotes and screeching at them! They wanted nothing to do with him and kept on going and at a much faster pace!
The rest of our walk home was uneventful, whew!
Sorry for the lack of pictures of me. Mommy is having some computer problems and her iPad is not letting her add photos.

Friday Phrasin'

I'm standin' here with nary a care
I thinkin' I might be goin' somewhere
It will be warm and not too hot
And maybe a tree or two at the spot
Oh a nice snow-cooled afternoon breeze
would really a sensitive pug girl please
I 'm sure all my FURiends already know
I'm talking about a place called Tahoe
The car is packed and looks ready to pop
We will not rest til we reach mountain top
Down the grade the blue expanse we'll spy
Crowned by peaks and deep blue sky

The next time you hear from me I will be cooling my paws lakeside. YAY!!!

Rockin' Block Party - PETS INVITED!!!!

Are Dogs allowed Here?

One of my PET peeves is not being allowed someplace. I mean, after all I AM A PUG which is the PERFECT companion dog. AS such, I should be allowed EVERYWHERE. Just because I cannot be stuffed into a handbag and discretely carried in . . . Well, YOU KNOW!

I know, I know. PEOPLES in my town take their dogs to many events like outdoor festivals, outdoor concerts, and so on. But they run the risk of being SENT AWAY because in truth - Dogs Are Not Allowed.
Harruuuuummmmmph!

But NOT ANY MORE!

I am pleased to share with you a SPECIAL event that a pet boutique in our Japantown  is taking steps to correct this heinous oversight - The are having a BLOCK PARTY (I am sure they meant Bark Party) in August and PETS ARE ALLOWED! In fact, PETS CAN BRING THEIR OWNERS, TOO!

I was so excited when I heard about this I almost piddled in MY POOL! But I controlled myself and ran inside to tell my MOMMYS that we HAD to attend this most auspicious EVENT ever!
Here are the facts straight from BISCUIT'S mouth -

Biscuiteers: Mark your calendars!

Biscuits & Cukui will be hosting a Summer Block Party August 27th (Saturday) from 12-6pm on Jackson St. between 5th and 6th. Featuring live music, food trucks, art and adoption center this will be the first pet friendly event in Japantown! Bring the entire family over and celebrate!
SO! If you happen to live in San Jose or if you know the song (Do You Know The Way To San Jose?) - come on by and enjoy what looks like a REAL GOOD TIME for us PUPS and their PEEPS.
PeeEss, if you look on my sidebar you will see their website under my fave places to shop.

R-O-I-L-I-N-G

Is it just me - or does this roiling bubbling water freak you out as well?

Monday, July 18, 2011

I TRIED it and I think it was GOOD, uh
But from all the SHOUTING, I don't think I SHOULDA
It tasted all GREEN and a little bit BITTER
I heard Mommy say it was a huge CATERPILLER
All I know is it TICKLED my tongue
And had the density of the dishwashing SPONGE
(Why yes, I DID take a nibble ONCE)
CHILL OUT Mom, you know I'm GOOD
I just like to be ADVENTUROUS with FOOD

Oops! I Did It Again!

Oops! I did it again. I stole my Auntie B's SHOES and ran from her when she tried to get them back. I have a problem and because of this I have entered a program to help me overcome my addiction. In this program we learn the steps we must take in order to purge ourselves of our destructive HABITS.

These are the TEN STEPS of SHOE STEALERS ANONYMOUS:

I VOW that I

1)  AM powerless over CHEWS, I mean SHOES — that my addiction has become unmanageable
2) Come to believe that Mommy's command is greater than ME and can restore ME to OBEDIENCE
3) MAKE a decision to turn MY will and MY LIFE over to the care of MOMMY's RULES
4) Make a PUGFUL moral inventory of MYSELF
5) Admit to Mommy, to MYSELF, and to MY OTHER HUMOM the exact nature of MY wrongs
6) AM entirely ready to have MOMMY remove all the CHEWS I have collected in my ROOM
7) Humbly ask MOMMY to GIVE IN to the power of my orbs and NOT punish me
8) MAKE a LIST of all persons whose CHEWS I have taken, and make amends to them all
9) Make LICKIES and SNUGGLES to such people wherever possible
10) Continue to take PUGSONAL inventory of my TOYS and only chew on those that are MINE

It takes a lot to keep this kisser looking soft and sweet. I have adopted a nightly routine that I feel is best for maintaining puckerability - I use FOOD flavored lip balm.

It all started one evening when Mommy was getting ready for bed. The last thing she did was put some stuff on her lips. She said it was to keep her lips soft. Well of course, I KNEW that putting something to the LIPS meant FOOD!

So like any self-respecting PUG, I began to BEG. Not a little, either. I am a little embarrassed to say HOW outta control my begging became but suffice it to say - it was not my finest moment.

After a couple of episodes like that, Mommy began to put some on her fingers and then rubbed it on my lips. They felt WONDERFUL! They SMELLED fruity! They TASTED - a little weird . . . kinda waxy, kinda fruity BUT overall good!

So the next time Mommy went to the T store, she picked me up some lip balm of my own! This is what she found.

I am ONE LUCKY PUG!!!!

Tuesday Tongue Wagging

My TONGUE has its own mind
Sometimes it likes to QUICKLY wiggle
Other times it feels around for a FIND

My TONGUE is shaped like a heart
It is PINK and soft and moist
At my food bowl it tends to DART
to grab ALL the succulent morsels

Gimme a Kiss

So it was my BIRTHDAY and I was pretty sure everything was ABOUT and FOR me. I still don't think I AM wrong to think so.
But then this INCIDENT happened and I am a little INCENSED because NOT everything SEEMED to be FOR me after all!
Let me explain - something happened to be dropped onto MY DOMAIN, i.e. THE KITCHEN FLOOR. It smelled good, it looked good (a little like poop) and it WAS DROPPED MY WAY.

So, I grabbed it, ran away to a more private location (the whole family was in the kitchen at the time) and chowed down.
Next thing I know My Mommys are running for me and Yelling NO! NO! NO! Then they got a little frantic and had worried expressions on their faces - I knew not why and, frankly, I CARED NOT why. Cuz that little morsel was Dang GOOD!

It seems that Little One had been eating some Hershey Kisses and  dropped a kiss on the floor. In true 5 year old fashion, she stood there and said OOPS but made no move to pick up the DREADED CHOCOLATE!  I took immediate action and the rest is history.
My Mommy's immediately took their worried expressions to the computer where they asked Mr. GOOGLE about the effects of eating chocolate on a lil PUGGIE like me. Turns out - not much. A bag of kisses would have been cause for concern.BUT one KISS in a 15 pound pup like me - nothing to worry about.

Turns out there was a lot of FREAKIN' for NOTHING but that's okay.

It means My Mommys love me very very much and I can TOTALLY get behind that!

The Humble Hound

 A fable by Mommy #1

So The Creator looked over all of his creatures
One stood out among the throng as being different
It was sweet and loving
It was smart and obedient
It was warm and cuddly
In fact, it was so special that The Creator decided to give it a special name.
So he thought and thought and thought about a name
Finally he snapped his fingers and said "I've got it!"
"This creature is most special and deserves a special name"
I will take MY name and reverse it"

And that is how the creature became known as DOG.

Decisions Dilemma

OMD! I received so many GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRReat entries to my Mad Lib contest that my jury of impartial judges was having the most difficult time deciding on a winner!

We finally had to cook up a SCHEME in order to choose the ABSOLUTE winner! So we used a PINCH of whimsy, a DASH of wit and a SPRINKLING of good old fashion know how and came up with the MAD LIB GRAND PRIZE WINNER (okay, I confess we ended up using Randomizer).
http://www.random.org/lists/

OMD, the suspense is killing ME!

And the winner is -

Here is her winning entry

Every year in July, THE PUG PUG has a huge Fourth of July picnic. In addition to the usual booths that sell fried WALLYMELONon a stick, and the face- DEVOURING stand, THE PUG always hosts a play reenacting famous historical scenes.
This year, things became confused because some scripts got mixed up at the copy shop. Last year, residents saw George Washington crossing the Delaware River, while this year, residents saw MARLENE DIETRICH BEGGING at a stand across from SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST! A few years ago, residents saw Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence. This year they saw OTIS SNIFFING  MILO & OTIS. To top it all off, instead of watching Abraham Lincoln recite the Gettysburg Address, residents saw BRIAN (from Family Guy) LICKING  A PUG IS A DOG by Kenn Nesbitt!
The town elders didn't know if they should be laughing or crying. But they knew for sure that this year's THE PUG picnic would be remembered for a long time!

Congratulations Marlene and thanks for helping me celebrate my ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!
Have your peoples with thumbs send me your mailing address so I may ship off your GOODIE BAG as soon as possible (or Mommy admittedly will forget).
