Ten Facts for the Tenth Month

I wear my PINK proudly

Hi  Everypuggy,
Today is the beginning of OCTOBER - and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is important that we all are aware of the facts and figures of Breast Cancer so we can prevent it and (hopefully, one day) cure it. Educate yourself with the facts.

ONE: Age

Your increasing age increases your risk of being affected by the disease. It does not mean that younger women can never develop breast cancer so women of all ages should be vigilant about breast health.

TWO: Family History

A woman with a family history of this cancer has double the risk of developing it .If there is one close relative with this cancer then their risk is doubled. In case of two close relatives then a woman’s risk is more than double.

THREE: Genetic Involvement

Although, the ratio of genetically transferred cancer is not very high 5 to 10 % occur due to this reason.

FOUR: Personal History

A woman who has once gone through this trauma is three to four times more likely to develop breast cancer again.

FIVE: Ethnicity and Race

Your race and ethnicity contributes in increasing or decreasing your risk. White women are being affected by this cancer more than others; on the other hand more African American women die of this cancer.

SIX: Dense Breasts

Dense breasts have more glandular tissues and less fatty tissues so the risk of developing breast cancer increases. This type of breasts is hard to screen on mammogram.

SEVEN: Benign Situation

There are certain benign breast situation that increase the risk of a woman to be affected by this disease.

EIGHT: Giving Birth to Family

It’s a natural process for every woman, so if any woman has not gone through this process her risk of developing cancer increases.

NINE: Stoutness

Stoutness enhances the risk of a woman developing breast cancer. Being overweight all through the menopause is more harmful as their risk is already augmented due to the age factor.

TEN: Alcohol Intake

Alcohol intake is directly linked to the augmented risk of breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society. If a woman controls her intake or quit it completely her risk decreases.

I want to declare that on every Tuesday of this month we all post PINK pictures. These can be enhanced photos, or photos of you wearing your pink, and so on. It is all about awareness and solidarity. Are you all with me?

Wear your PINK Proudly!
