Wrinkles of Worry

Many of you know my sisteroid, Sunshine the cat. She has been around a long long time- nearly 17 years, if you can believe it. She is the grand dame of the house and I consider her my BIG SISTER - even though she isn't bigger than me.

We used to all be close to the same size. I, being a PUG, has always weighed a little more; but otherwise the three of us have always been similar in size. But these past few months - well almost the whole year - we kinda noticed that although she has a good appetite and drinks plenty of water, Sunshine has gotten very very skinny. Generally she is pretty healthy acting so we don't worry too much about it.

But the other night, Sunday to be specific, something happened which totally unnerved Molly and Me . . . and indeed the whole family. It appears Sunshine, my beloved (most of the time) BIG SISTEROID had a seizure. Aunt T noticed it when Sunshine had trouble negotiating the two stairs into the kitchen. She was listing to one side and kinda went limp. He eyes were dilated really really wide, too. She was OUT OF IT. Molly and I started BAWLING because we knew something was wrong but we didn't know what or why. I am afraid we DID NOT make the situation any better with our behavior.

But I was so worried. She did come out of it and within a couple of hours, she was acting her normal cantankerous self.

I am still worried. I know she is OLD and frail BUT I am not ready to lose her yet. Sure, she can be a bully. And yes, she conveniently forgets the litter box is where she is supposed to poop. But even with all of that, she is still my best FURIEND as only a sisteroid can be. I want us to grow OLD together so she needs to get it together and stay well.

This little PUGGY needs her.

Wordless Wednesday Sorta, Kinda, Maybe. . .

This is a puzzling photo, don't you think? It sorta looks a little like the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, right?

Kind of. . .

But this is what was REALLY happening - and don't be fooled. Sunshine was just pretending to be all asleep and innocent. In truth, she has some insidious plans up her FURS.

A Very Special Birthday for a Very Special Kitty

See that KITTY in the middle of the pix? That is Sunshine the Cat and she celebrated her BIRTHDAY on Sunday. This year she turned FOURTEEN years old (in human years)! That is alarmingly OLD. But she doesn't really look it, huh? And other than walking very slowly and not jumping up on really high things, she doesn't act it either. She is spry for an OLD GAL. A lot of that is because her weight is in check and she gets a mix of wet and dry foods. A lot a lot of it is due to GOOD OL' GENES.

Whatever. We are just happy to celebrate another special day with her. She makes us giggle. She is the Regent of the house and we respect her for it.

So on Sunday we had a special birthday celebration for her complete with hats.

Well, said Sunshine the Cat, that's enough of THAT!

Yep - she chose that moment to go total CAT on us.

Happy Birthday Sunshine and I hope we get to celebrate many more!

Tabby Tuesday

I don't think we do enough Sunshine days. And to be frank (as in Frank the Tank), I am not inclined to put my tongue out for Tongue out Tuesday. I lick all the time but too fast for a decent photo, according to Mommy.

SO here she is - our numero uno TABBY cat, Sunshine.

Spinning . . . for . . . PRIZES

Unrelated to POST topic
But I like this picture of me

At the Bay Area Pet Expo, there were all kind of raffles and contests and ways to win products. Most of these I don't even bother with BECAUSE I am not known for being particularly adept at these things. Once in a while, though, I take a chance and get lucky.

Such was the occasion at the SPINNING WHEEL. This particular vendor was collecting money for rescues - I think it was for large dogs, like Pit Bulls or GSD. I like all dogs so thought - why not? My cousin C, who is nine years old and human, helped me out. Her first spin was not too good and the pin stopped kind of in-between prizes. So the nice LADY running the spinning wheel let her try again. This time she SPINNED. . .SPUN . . . whatever. . . it really good and I won a COLLAR!

I have a lot of collars; but you know - they are like shoes and a GIRL just cannot have enough collars. I have some to coordinate with most of my outfits. Anyhow, I was very excited when I won a collar and chose red.

Well, look at the collar compared with the sample food.
Those samples are 3 meals worth of kibble! And that
Milk Bone on the right is the biggest one sold.
Well, I am not sure if this Lady actually LOOKED at me because the collar she handed to me was GIGANTIC! If you can gauge just how large it is from this picture. . . It was B-I-G!

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it because. . . although it is super cute and red and has little Scottie dogs on it. . . there was no adjusting it to fit me. Plus, it was so heavy I think it easily weighed about half of me and that is a lot of weight for a PUG!

So what was I to do with such a collar? Well, I thought of having a contest. But, I thought, what if a small dog wins? Then what? Then I thought. . . who is going to trust me after it took 5 months to send prizes from the LAST contest I ran?

The solution struck me as I was sitting in the dining room enjoying a ray of sun. . . I can give it to my FURiend who I have NEVER met but whose brotheroid, Louie, once greeted me so exuberantly that I ended up in his MOUTH. . . SUNSHINE!!!!

Anyhow - that is just what I did.

Here is a picture of Sunshine, my FURiend, in her new collar. It looks absolutely lovely with her naturally RED fur. I am so pleased that I thought of her.

Sunshine Makes the Big Leap

Sunshine is a little slower these days. She is 12 years old, after all. She uses a chair most of the time to get up on the shojii screens. Her food is up there because Molly and I like to eat her food if it is on the floor. It smells enticing, you know.
One day everybody in the house was busy and Sunshine wanted to get a nibble. She sat and waited for someone to pull out the chair for her but no one did. She decided she needed to throw caution to the wind and make the leap herself.

Sunshine All Over

Hi EveryPUGGY!!!! Yesterday was a very special day INDEED. It was Sunshine the Cat's ELEVENTY birthday! Yes, you heard right - she has been a part of this family for that many years. Unbelievable.

She was in her usual stand-offish mood until the 'rents came home shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY and passing out TREATS. Then she was all into the ACT.

To make it seem like more fun for ALL OF US, Cousin E decided to try the PARTY hat on all of us. In order to accomplish this she also had to LAY A FEW treats on us. I am not complaining, just stating the facts.

Molly and I were UBER cooperative since we are, a-hem, canines. The CAT, uh . . . not so much. No amount of treats would make that feline keep the hat on the noggin. It all came down to this ->

It's MY Party and I will DO as I want . . .

Happy Birthday Sunshine the Cat and here's to MANY MANY more.

Memorable Memorial Weekend

Everybody and PUGGY in the household was home over the long weekend. I say YAY to that! I loves loves loves when my Mommys are home because it means a lot of snuggle time is in the offing.

But this was not any ORDINARY long weekend. Nope, this was the weekend of THE GREAT YARD CLEANUP! You see, Spring deposited a lot of grasses and stuff in the yard which had since dried out and turned to stickers. Molly is a STICKER MAGNET and her mommys were going CRAZY trying to keep her sticker-free. So it was decided to spend the holiday weekend clearing out those grasses and making the yard again friendly for Summer-living.

Everyone got in the act - all the way down to the two youngest household members, Molly and Lil' One. OMP! It was a lot of hard work and I was panting up a storm. It was not a hot weekend, luckily, but all that digging, hoeing and raking can really make someone overheat.

It was kinda fun, in a strange sorta way. And even tho' everypuggy was tired and sore after we stopped, we all had satisfied smiles on our faces. Not to mention, it was just fun to hang with the homies and make our nest right fine.

There was still plenty of time for hiking, scootering, shopping and movie watching. It really was a fantastic Memorial Weekend.

HAPPY THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Hard work never really seems all that difficult when you work as a team.

Hey Look At THIS Body. . .

When I stroll on by, TOMS be lookin' at ME on the SLY
I JUMP to the beat, walking down the street in my new TEE, yeah
This is how I stroll, I'm an ANIMAL, it's in my SOUL,
It's SUNSHINE sayin' HI Y'ALL
And like a LION I've got the claw

TOMS look at that body (x3)
I work out
TOMS look at that body (x3)
I work out

When I jump on the counter, this is what I see
A sleek FINE tabby happy and FREE
I got attitude that lasts and I ain't afraid to show it

I'm sexy and I know it (x2)

Just a Little Taste

Sunshine the Cat here. I love Summer and its infinite smells and tastes. I am an indoor cat, if truth be told; but once in a while I like to sneak out the back door and experience the WORLD. I don't go far, just to the grassy area behind the house. It is sheer heaven - that is until that MOUTHY pug alerts the 'rents to my whereabouts.

Then it is all "Get BACK in here Sunshine!" and "Don't you DARE run away." My favorite is "Sunshine, come in and you'll get a TREAT!"

Shuts the yappy hound up as well.
