Sunshine Will Do ANYTHING For Attention . . .

Lucky Number Thirteen. . .

Saturday was CATURDAY at our house. It was the day we celebrated Sunshine the Cat's THIRTEENTH birthday. Can you believe how good she looks for being a geriatric pet? She really looks just like she did when she was THREE. She does have some issues - like her back hip is stiff and so she cannot jump as high as she used to. She uses a chair to get to her meal. Mommys serve it on the shoji screen cabinet because that way some DOG n PUG do not eat it for her.

She got all kinds of special treatment for her birthday. Molly and I let her sleep on any dog bed she chose and she chose ALL OF THEM. Whenever I headed to one, she would come quickly trotting from behind me to nab it for herself. I ended up napping outside on the patio because Sunshine the Cat is NOT allowed to go OUTSIDE.

She also got a special meal of all WET FOOD which none of us ever get. She totally played that up in our faces too - sitting on the shoji screen carefully licking her chops clean, meticulously licking her paws, repeatedly licking her bowl long after the food was gone. Oh - she was DIGGING it.

Overall, I am very proud of Sunshine for maintaining her health and happiness; because when all is said and done - those are the keys to a long life.

Cat Trial

She is at it again. . . Sunshine the Cat, the self-designated QUEEN of Casa de Noodles (come again??) wheedled her way into doing a *product review AGAIN! And that lovely Ms Sydney from Chewy.com said YES!! So what could little ol' Noodles the Pug do? I temporarily stepped aside and let THE QUEEN have her way. But note I said temporarily because ONE- the blog is mine and TWO- I am reviewing a product next week, also for Chewy.com. So that THAT Queenie.

For her Trial, Sunshine chose the variety of canned cat food by Tiki Cat called

I think Sunshine like the word CARNIVORE in the product name. It makes her feel all tough and stuff. So that is one paw up for good marketing. Chewy.com has all of the varieties of food Tiki Cat makes so there is something for everyone. I suggest you follow the link (where it says TIKI CAT) and see what I mean.
Chewy.com delivered the food in under 2 days in typical CHEWY.COM style. We love them here - especially Mommy #2 who no longer goes the the pet store to stand in the aisles staring at pet food choices until she hyperventilates and grabs the cheapest one she can find. That NEVER turns out well for us.
I am going to step aside and let Sunshine the Cat take over for the review. Take it away YOUR HIGHNESS!

That kinda sums up her review. It came, SHE saw, and she conquered. She "conquers" it every night for her evening meal. She is quite insistent. And I mean INSISTENT!!

The inside info on Tiki Cat Gourmet Carnivore cat food is it is GRAIN FREE and GLUTEN FREE. Those are two foods cats simply do not need. And it is 55% protein and 35% fat which is good for cats. It is made with whole meats and has a zero glycemic index which I assume means there is no added sugar,

Sunshine tried the Tilapia which she said is FIT FOR A QUEEN. Gone are her Kit n Kaboodle and Meow Mix days. This kitty is HOOKED on the good stuff.

We've Had Sunshine for Twelve Years

Of course I mean SUNSHINE THE CAT. Today is her 12th BIRTHDAY. She has been a part of our family since she was about 6 weeks old - maybe younger we DON'T KNOW! She was a stray who was wandering in a friend's yard. After a few sleepless nights because of the kitten howling for her mama, our friend rescued her and brought her to OUR HOUSE. She knew we needed another kitten (okay, admittedly this all happened WAY before I was born, , , but I feel she is part of my story so. . )

She is a little slower these days, but just as willful as ever.

Freckle Face

Hi. Sunshine the Cat here TAKING OVER the blog for a bit. I wanna discuss something that has been with me for a long time - FRECKLES.

Merriam Webster's Dictionary describes a FRECKLE as - 1freck·le noun \ˈfre-kəl\

: a small, brownish spot on someone's skin

If you look closely at my picture, you will see that I have a freckled nose. It doesn't hurt. . . in fact I cannot even feel it. It IS, however, frequently brought to my attention.

It makes me uniquely ME and not some random anonymous orange tabby. You might even call me the Jenny Weasley of the CAT WORLD. I am about as clever as she. . .

So that is all. I am a freckle faced cat and PROUD of it.

The Package

I love the POST PERSON who brings all the fun stuff in the mail. I wait anxiously for the sound of her (sometime it is a his) truck then I get all excited when I hear it. Then there is the best sound in the world, the DROP of the MAIL. I loves loves loves it! Mommy #2 says she is not such a fan of mail these days. She gets lots of mail, she says, but it is mostly BILLS that she has to pay. That does not seem like much fun.

So last week I was listening to our mailperson when I heard an especially delicious sound - the PLOP of a box! A box! That could only mean ONE THING:

I ran, ran, ran out of the room to wait by the door for Mommy to open it. When she did, this is what I saw. . .

Wha' in the WORLD is going on? I stammered.

Now Noodles, said Mommy. Sometimes it is nice if Sunshine gets a chance to try something new. Especially since she is so picky and it is SO hard to find a food she likes.

The package contained 3 little pouches of food called Platefulls. It is like canned food only FRESHER and more natural.


Hmmm. Looked interesting - sorta. Sunshine will like it ONLY if it is more like DOG food than CAT food. She totally SCARFS my food if I don't hoover it down immediately.




Also inside the package were some special things for MOMMY only. She smiled a lot at that. Could be coupons and stuff. . . I dunno. She smiles at funny stuff.

So here is the legal mumbo-jumbo about Platefulls food by Natural Balance (Hey! I like their stuff. I eat it on occasion. . . the dog kind, that is):

So that all looks good, huh? It is also by some DUDE called Dick Van Patten. He is this HOLLYWOOD type that now makes animal food. . . kinda like Ellen Degeneres' HALO and Rachel Ray's NUTRISH. I think you have to have a cutesy name if you are a celebrity in the pet food biz.

They have many many flavors, as well. SO if Sunshine that extra PICKY cat does not like the one we have - well maybe we could sometime try another flavor. We'll See, I thought.

I needn't have worried, though. This is a picture of 

Sunshine the Cat doing something we seldom see her doing at dinnertime - obsessively eating what is in her bowl. She never does this. She normally jumps up and takes a look. . . then she jumps down and takes a bath. Then she jumps up to her bowl again and takes out ONE ORT and eats it. Then she proceeds to do the same thing for the next 5 minutes - take out one ORT and eat it. Then she jumps down and goes to stare out the window. She repeats this FOR HOURS before she finishes ONE MEAL.

Not so with PLATEFULLS. She stood there and chowed for a solid 15 minutes - until every drop of gravy and morsel of food was gone. GONE as in bowl-licked-clean gone.

Mommy repeated the feeding for the next 2 nights and Sunshine did the same thing every night - scarfed her food like a PUG!!! Mommy considered it quite a success.

The only issues Mommy had with Platefulls were

1. The GRANDE portion size. You are supposed to feed one 3oz pouchfull for every 5 pounds of weight. That means Sunshine the Cat should have eaten 2 pouches. If she did that, she would soon LOOK LIKE A PUG in addition to eating one. She has HUSKY tendencies.
2. The Smell - maybe not too much for most humans, especially if your Dogs, Cats, and Pugs are fed RAW or almost RAW foods. But for a veghead like my Mommy - it was a little too fishy and gamey for her. I think that is her problem.

Other than that, she thought PLATEFULLS represent another FINE product provided by CHEWY.COM.

So was the experiment a success? Well YES. It was. Sunshine ate like she NEVER eats and that is a plus. The food was fresh looking and smelling which is always a plus AND not so full of preservatives that she would worry about my sisteroid's health (she is getting on in years, you know). In fact, she HINTED that SOMEkitty might be getting PLATEFULLS in her stocking this Christmas. I guess Mommy has an IN with SANTA?

Thank you Chewy.com for providing us with the opportunity to do this experiment. I am a little PEEVED that it wasn't all about ME because I consider you MY TERRITORY and we all know how PUGETTES get with their TERRITORY!!
